Is $45 a good price for an HD texture pack?

I bought it on Steam for 40 U.S. dollars. A few crashes and some tinkering wit the settings. Playing on a unofficial server with friends and having a blast. Compared to Ark SE and all the DLC and its unlocking, I was surprised when I hit the level 105 ceiling since the DLC's aren't out yet but for me its fun and worth some of the bugs and occasional crashes that occur.

No, not at all. But if you have fun playing ARK you can play it again with less content and more bugs then the original.

No, it's not. I have it downloaded and will patch it until it's worth the price and then maybe I'll invest.
if your just getting into the ARK for the first time HARD NO it will instantly turn you off to the game, and the game is amazing without all the crashes, bugs, and lag. I would honestly wait at least 6 months so more patches can get pushed through and the game can get more polished

In all honesty, it is not. Too bare bones without mods. It needs a lot more optimization and a lot of the bugs from ASE are here in ASA too. Would it be a enjoyable experience? Probably. It has a lot of neat, added features. Is it worth that $40+ though? Nope. Not in it's current state. After they add in more of the missing content then sure.

Completely subjective but IMO No, not now. Once they get more content and fix the crashes, meshing and numerous other bugs, then it will be worth it. Till then be patient and dont reward them. Plus by then it will prob be on sale, win win.

It's definitely worth it for some people but it's a pretty big gamble. It can be very unstable and buggy and a bit of work to get it to run smoothly.
I have about 50 hours in it and I've crashed dozens of times, literally. I almost wish it wasn't fun at all because it's causing me to keep going through the headache of restarting the game. Lol

I'm not sure that I would recommend it to somebody I REALLY like:)

No it's not. The new visuals and engine are nice. The performance issues for starters are beyond acceptable and the game it's self has many of the same issues that ASE had only it doesn't yet have the mods to fix them. That said modding is done better through curse and if you're a pirate you can find a way and play online too quite easily to check it out and figure this question out for yourself. I cant post any links however a friendly online-fix site has many many online fixed games for pirates good way to try before you buy. Obviously buy if you enjoy and support the development but imo if its an option always try before you buy.

Unless you have a 4090, you're going to be playing the same game as before.

You know what would be worth it? Paying $40ish dollars to trying to smack the stupid out of anyone at wildcard who was okay releasing this trash in its current state.

It runs fine for a lot of people including me and I have a mid range system ( i5 12600kf RTX 3060ti 32gb ddr4, installed on NVME and win11), the minority are the ones that post here in every thread like this complaining. I love it, massive improvement over the original and so much more than just the graphics upgrade has been done.

A decent CPU and the NVME or at least an SSD will make a difference.

minority? source?
when you look at reviews, even positive ones say something like "bugged, unplayable, but i hope they will fix it"

I got 11k hours in ASE, I am a huge fan but sorry can't recommend.

- Too many bugs
- official server I am playing on crashes and rolls back at least 4 times a day
- "oh look shiny graphics", too bad 90% of people need to turn those settings down to get any decent FPS
- Dino pathing sucks, I actually think dinos are worse than ASE
- Crossbow bug still a thing, seriously I love WC but you can't fix this bug?

I can go on and on, I won't as I want to log in and play however part of me just doesn't want to log in and save myself the aggravation today.

What people are saying is true, it's a texture pack, the additional features / mechanics could have been delivered in a major update of ASE.
