An exception is made for 15 minutes after an object is placed (so that someone can't just stalk you and destroy your stuff before you have time to place 7 connected items).
If after the 15 minutes expires the object doesn't meet the requirements above it is automatically destroyed in 1 hit by any player with any attack (inlcuding unarmed).
If the conditions are met however then it forms a protected zone radius and any items in that range are additionally protected, so even if you place down, say, a trough on the grass, it is still protected since it is within the building's protection radius even though the trough itself does not fulfill the 7 item requirement, though the tough itself does not extend the radius any.
7 items requires significantly more investment on their part however. Not only does it increase the building materials required, but, more importantly, it requires more time for them to pull off, which increases the chance of them becoming annoyed and stopping before they do as large of an area.
There will never be a perfect solution, no, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't do anything.
Simple solution for PVE: you can set up one base within a very large radius. That base itself has a maximum radius from the first piece you put down.
Griefing's been around since before you were born, my man. Instead of sitting there with a stupid look on your face waiting for someone else to solve your problem - might I suggest being an adult and creating your own solution(IE: host/join a private server that doesn't allow pillaring)?
Plenty of reasons to bash Wildcard, this ain't really one of 'em. If someone wants to grief in a video game the only real solution is to create a system that has no consequences player A can apply to player B and all I gotta say is: good luck implementing that into a predominately pvp game, lol.
anyway, in past in ASE was common that when someone pillarized huge part of map, then when you report it, admin come and removed whole tribe - structures, dinos...
on other hand pillarized rare spawns and resource spawns (metal, crystal, obsidian) were fine
there was issue with new ppl who had no idea that metal dont respawn in radius around building... they just build right in middle of metal nodes and destroy that place for everyone... or they build right on Spino spawns and cancel possibility to fight bosses, because there was no spino at all
usually help, when ppl ask kindly, when they needed more room for their base. and ofc, everyone had some free perimeter around base. i didnt play on unoffi, then i dont know if there was a issue to ask ppl or not... but on offi it was ok.. mostly friendly ppl.
2 thatch (very small radius, think big enough for a starter house or a small taming pen).
2 Wood, big enough for your typical wood house as you gain more workbenches and a few dinos.
2 stone, now you are getting into some serious land claim. You will be able to claim land enough for walling off your tames that you have gotten quite a few of, including larger ones like bronts/gigas. Its not big enough for you to make a whole warehouse of large dinos, thats not until...
1 metal. big enough that if you want you can make that large warehouse of dinos.
Finally, unlocked alongside the replicator You get your Tek flag. This baby claims enough area that you can build that mega base.
These are capped to only those numbers per tribe. No way to increase it.
But like many say best is play on nonofficals or private. As official servers will have hackers, griefers and spammers. Just how it is. Even worse on PVP servers. You take long time to build a pretty base and get some dinos... And some one kites a giga into your base and you find every thing gone.
Why I play on friends servers or single player so dont need worry about the drama.
but nvm.. i have another experience (i mean.. they are not fast, it took month(s) to get admin on offi... but it works
i never saw some server pillarized as you said.. but there was lot of them, then some probably can be like that.
maybe i was extreme lucky on servers with cool ppl and not pillarized whole map
Also when takes month or longer to get a admin to get on a server... Thats bad sign. In that month how many players might try that server to play for first time. And run into that and have it stay for months with no help? If I am trying to join a server and month goes by and no admin removes blatant griefing... I wont be staying on that server. And many others will see it the same.
And waiting month + for a admin to simply join to fix it in 10-20 minutes.. And months pass. That doesnt really speak "Works". It says you got lucky one decided to swing by. And probably wasnt even there for that honestly. As one that did stop by for us had no idea of the problems that had been reported by half the server. And had to be told then.
I try to deal with it.
Plus I found the challange of claiming a base in Official servers fun.
It was hard,in ASE cause I came way late(like 3 years after release)and everything was pillard plus mega bases.
But I managed to find a spot..letter neighbours left and ive expanded, little by littlle untill I had a huge base, with yard for dinos.
