Nitrado Servers Explained
In an investor report filed by Snail Games, the company states that it had an outstanding debt of $1,046,932 with Nitrado for server fees from Ark: Survival Evolved. Nitrado's parent company, Marbis, agreed to absolve Snail of the outstanding debt and pay $4,046,932 to fund future Ark titles. In exchange, Nitrado would receive seven years of server exclusivity, including the exclusive rights to server coverage for Ark 2. This agreement also expands into "any and all future remakes, sequels, prequels, spin-offs, and other related contents" for the Ark franchise.

SEC filings by Snail Games and Marbis revealed a condition to the agreement between the two companies. Should Snail Games and Studio Wildcard fail to release Ark: Survival Ascended globally by October 31, 2023, the agreement would grant Marbis/Nitrado exclusive server hosting rights for Ark: Survival Evolved. This exclusivity clause may have been part of the deciding factor for ASA to launch on Steam without its console counterparts, despite much emphasis on the game's cross-platform capabilities.

Yeah that pretty much explains a lot

Yep, lots of people wont be happy.

Definitely the Devs fault either way.

But this applying to ALL FUTURE ARK Related Titles means Nitrado has them by the balls.

Isn't the Devs fault at all. Blame the publisher, Snailgames made the contract agreement, not wildcard. Stop focusing your anger and disappointment at the wrong team.

old news now, put out a while ago by several streamers. Nitrado is a very dirty, shady, low down company. People smart enough have already known this for years, this is why my ASE servers are on gportal, amongst many other reasons

I've never had an issue with Nitrado personally. Ran several servers on it.

Snailgames is not the publisher. Wildcard is a subsidiary of Snailgames Snail is the owner and can hire and fire people at wildcard. Publishers usually provide some funding, do all the advertising, release the game, put their name on the game, get a cut of the revenue, have a limited contract for x number of years, and usually quality test games. Activision and Bunjie was a Publisher developer relationship. Snail owns Wildcard

Still basically means a lot of people who used to have their own server and play with a group of 5 friends or so are stuffed or pay big bucks to a server host who is notorious for downtime and crashes. SP it is...for 7 years - po0o

Most of the above has changed to set the record straight. Snail and nitrado changed there tune regarding ppl hosting ark ASA on there own hardware, They tried to limit it to gain advantage for Nitrado servers at first. This was recinded after massive protest by the community. You can host as many ASA servers as you like. As apposed to other hosting server providers, i am not to sure on the rules, but definately your own hardware at home or elsewhere is allowed. I do not know what rules Ark2 will be released under, if at all. I cannot see the community accepting that Ark2 will be solely provisioned by Nitrado, I suggest the community would blacklist the game. They might try it but i think it will fail.

The worst part of this is if you only want to play co-op you still have to pay for 20 slots.
