Grass is way too tall

So unless you make a character that is at max height to where you can't even see his full body in the inventory screen, you can't see over the grass. And there is no way to turn down the foliage. Please change the defaults, or allow me to adjust the grass, as this is pretty ridiculous. Did the devs even actually play with default characters after porting it?

1 is default, way too tall

Its not that the grass is to tall. When you change from third person view to first person you can see that camera end up in your stomach. The first person camera is positioned to low. If you have a tall character that transition from third person to first person is even more noticeable where the camera ends up.

I know, this is the only fix.

Or,remove grass entirely. I prefer to scale it down, hence why i found that console command.

nice catch! I have never played Ark in 1st person, so would never have caught that. Which is also why I won't be playing Ark 2, lol

Subjective, i personally hate it. Some grass is fine if high, but this versio of the game...ALL grass is tall. Makes it hard to navigate for us who lieks to play in first person,i never use 3rd person.

I know this is old, but I've been fighting the same issue and your guide helped me fix my problem and led me to finding the config file that permanently sets this setting so you do not have to manually enter it as a console command each time play.

Go to your Ark Ascended install folder most likely

 C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\ARK Survival Ascended\ShooterGame\Saved\Config\Windows 

and open the

 Scalability.ini 

file. Paste these lines of code into it

[FoliageQuality@1]
grass.sizeScale=0.55

[FoliageQuality@2]
grass.sizeScale=0.55

[FoliageQuality@3]
grass.sizeScale=0.55

Then save the file and start your game! The three settings groups are needed because depending on what graphic level you have your game set to it will be looking for an override setting in FoliageQuality group 1, 2, or 3. The sizeScale default value is 1.0 so this will make it 55% of it's normal height or 45% shorter (whichever way you want to look at it). Set the value to whatever you like from 0.0 to 1.0. If you really wanna be crazy and never see where you are at set it above 1.0 like 1.5 or 2.0 and the grass will be towering over you.
