BEST WAY TO OPTIMISE ARK ASCENDED
Ok, first open Nvidia control panel and set Image scaling to on aka NIS
Put the slider at 20% or 30%.
Uncheck the last box that displays if NIS is enabled.
Set a refresh limit to your native max refresh limit.

Then load up the game and type ` to bring up the console.
In console type the following
r.VolumetricCloud 0 (Press Enter),
r.VolumetricFog 0 (Press Enter),
r.Water.SingleLayer.Reflection 0 (Press Enter)
and lastly type r.DistanceFieldShadowing 1 (Press Enter). <This is a minor fps cost.

The r.DistanceFieldshadows will improve visuals, if you want ugly then don't enter it.

Ok, in the Video menu, change your Resolution to one lower than your native
eg, If you run 2560 X 1440, select 1920 x 1080.

Set window mode to Fullscreen (NOT WINDOWEDFULLSCREEN)
Changing your resolution enables NIS as above and will boost your FPS.

run all options on the left to low aside from View distance and Foliage quality, set these to medium, a low view distance will result in floating trees and a low foliage quality will result in immersion breaking "Pop in".

On the right side set your Max frame rate to your native and check the box.
fixing frame rates will prevent you from jumping from your average fps in game to over 300 in menus, this is not healthy for your GPU and can be louder as your fans work harder.
set all other options to OFF and sliders to lowest aside from "Enable Foliage & Fluid Interaction. Set Foliage interaction Distance Multiplier to 0.03, This will remove the floating rocks that you may have seen.
Set Disable HLOD to ON, this seems to help at times but I am still figuring it out, I basically doubled my fps.

For those of you who have RTX, set DLSS to ON, performance and keep Nvidia low latency On.

In UI Set Melee camera animation to Off, it sucks.

In Camera turn everything Off and keep Field of view no higher than 70, the reason is you will impact your FPS slightly and your right arm will clip when you run with your weapon such as Bow is equipped.

I also turned off Underwater bubble particle multiplier in Advanced for good measure.

So using these settings I went from the Default performance of 15fps to 90 and I run a 2080 Super. Every tutorial vid has a guy running a 4090 which helps almost NOBODY.

The last thing you can do also to smoothen out your fps is to open CMD as administrator and type these;
bcdedit /set useplatformtick yes

bcdedit /set disabledynamictick yes

bcdedit /deletevalue useplatformclock

Do these one at a time pressing enter after each of them then restart your PC.

From what I have learned is the fps which are rendered per second struggle as your computer has a Timer resolution at 0.997, 0.496 etc, you absolutely NEED to have them at 1.0 and 0.5. I tested this in Rocket League and my frames are much more stable so the game looks cleaner and runs buttery smooth.

Hope this helps!!!!

Yeah just turn everything off that you paid for guys, so you can play basically the old game but with the delusional player base that thinks they're playing a new game.
Have fun.
This game looks and plays better than ASE does even at low settings. Nobody is turning the new graphics off that is impossible. Regardless of your emotional gaslighting this is a new game. Nobody cares if you think differently.
Thank you so much for your help Vallance much appreciated mate

I swear the clouds are fixed now. Whenever I change them I get maybe 5 extra fps AT BEST and now my average fps when I leave it on is the same as when I would turn it off before.

Maybe it is just systems with less video memory?

Can be. UE5 is a new technology and typically new software needs new/better hardware. So more GPU memory. On my AMD RX 7800 XT with 16 GB the game run at 1920x1080 in EPIC with 40 to 50 FPS without any graphics tweaks. For single player this is quite ok. I tested switching off the FPS limiter and with volumetricclouds 0 I got a boost of 25 to 30 FPS to nearly 80 FPS.

I never really got a huge fps boost with the clouds off either in my game, even from day one. But I keep them off simply because, at the lower graphical settings, something causes them to flicker in ways that is extremely distracting for me. So I'm fine just keeping them off.

Hey, if they flicker try using DLAA mode in DLSS, it is a bit taxing but you can counter that with using r.VolumetricCloud.StepSizeOnZeroConservativeDensity 10 which reduces the clouds a bit, the higher the number the less clouds there are but the downside is you lose the immersion a bit. I actually think clouds are vital to the game as nights are actually bright af without them. So far I believe it is best to lock everything on lowest settings aside from shadows and global illumination both at high, you lose fps here but gain it elsewhere so it is a decent balance and the game still keeps it's "looks"

use nanite.maxpixels etc and set it to 3 and you gain some fps, setting it to 4 gains a tad more but you see the quality drop too much imo

It depends, the game is buggy, sometimes it doesn't fully recognise the or implement the change until you restart
I also have notice minor changes with the volumetric clouds command. the big one for me was r.streaming.poolSize 0. i guess it throttles how fast or how much your card can process or something like that. again, currently on medium graphics, 1440 rez, on a 2070 super. I will probably tinker some more with some of the changes you have reccomended here...my only issue is that my clouds look like garbage and I'm getting the floaty rocks bug thing.

Imagine changing everything on you pc to make a game run when all other games run fine

That is a bit of a lame comment, most people adjust settings in their games regardless of how optimised it is, or in this game.....isn't, so as an EA title it is expected to run into poor performance on GPUs that can and should run this game at higher FPS than 15 etc from the default settings.

We HAVE to remove the Unreal 5 look just to play the game enjoyably, however using command lines we can regain that Unreal 5 look without the massive FPS cost.

The problem you guys don't understand is that Unreal engine 5 is a bloated engine packed with all sorts of features that weigh this game down heavily, so games run slower across all cards hence why 40 Series cards are barely performing without using frame generation. What would help is if UE5 was barebones similar to UE4, than this game can be optimised more accurately and we would not have to muck about.

But you paid 45 bucks so some other dudes who are doing this all day, do it for you, this should have been not our problems it should be the problems of the devs and they should be made accountable for it

Ok first off let's ease up a bit, the devs are doing what they can....it's the demand that is causing issues, the demand from above I mean. If they were given more time to do a better job I am sure they would have made a more stable experience, however they had to get the game ready for launch due to business decisions beyond their control. So let's just chill on the whole "Make 'em pay" aggro.

Next let's tackle the "But you paid 45 bucks so some other dudes who are doing this all day, do it for you," this is my time and I enjoy it doing whatever I want to, I am studying coding and this is a learning experience that can bolster my understanding of the tech and I have actually had fun being curious and playing around with the command lines. For instance, type grass.sizeScale 10............you will have a laugh but aside from that I have been interested in what bells and whistles this UE5 has and have discovered that it is actually a much more bloated piece of software than it's predecessor so I am not surprised Ark is not optimised as well as it should be, but that takes time and we already know that was taken away from the devs as I mentioned above.

Now, every game has performance issues and there are ways we as gamers share tips and tricks to improve that and don't even get me started on the Modding communities that literally keep the blood flowing so these games last much longer than they deserve to....all done by the modders for free of charge.

This game in my opinion could have been made available to us for free as was many upgraded games before it but they chose to charge us and sh!t on the ASE community who have invested many years on servers that will now be shut down completely, that is where the key issue is at least in my opinion. "Decisions" seem to be the cancer that has tainted the franchise and it was all from greed, thankfully there is no season pass or store bundled within this game and apparently all the DLC will be free tho I may be wrong. So there is some good with the bad, you know all the YT's are uploading the same content? The ones we listen to and think "They are right!" etc? They are just as bad, posting the same cookie cutter content bashing the game..........as far as content goes people are spending a lot more time consuming that crap over and over again and the creators will be lost without it. It is actually very sad that when and if the game is fixed you will still see the same lazy content complaining about a flying T-rex or whatever, you can literally smell the row of lazy content just waiting to be released when this game is launched on consoles. Anyway, all I am saying is chill out, enjoy the game or play something else, the complain train is not worth your time so don't judge what others do with their time, especially if it helps you.

Have fun

to be honest the FPS is not a problem...its the crashes nothing else...

I gave it a try but unfortunately the game is just too laggy for me to use DLAA, but that did indeed stop the flickering, and even with the cloud setting up to 10 I still couldn't get the fps that I'd like so for now the clouds will have to be turned off for me. I don't mind the nighttime being brighter
