This works, or you can place the foundation where it wants to go, and then put a ceiling over it at the level of all the other foundations. Sure was easier when you could just stack foundations, but I guess it is best that this isn't allowed, as a foundation is a special piece that uses more game resources than any other (except maybe the pillar). Good that the game no longer allows stacking that creates bases that can lag out a server.

another epic fail of the Dev's. all this advanced software and they are still stuck in the stone age with building.

One of the first things I tried to do was stack foundations on each other and it wouldn't work. I used to use that mod that allowed foundation stacking. S+ I think it was called?

I didn't like having to build on ceilings that were on top of pillars. I don't think that it looked very good aesthetically.

I just play single-player also

Although they've made ceilings sit at the exact same level as (nearby) foundations now so it looks acceptable finally.

at least pillars do not poke thru ceilings like they used to. they snap into place cleanly.

You can raise and lower foundations here though but holding the left mouse button once you click to place it, instead of letting it go. Then you can raise and lower the foundation
Doing so, you should be able to level things more out then build off it for a even surface?
Unless you are building on some really steep terrain

Oh, that is great. That was really annoying.

Ah, these are literally building pieces made of thatch, wood, and stone we are talking about. Could be they are all doing us a favor by not allowing stacking foundations. Maybe they know something about foundations that they want to limit how many of them are used.

I'm curious if the tek foundations have the same restriction.

I thought I read they'd made it possible in ASA. The level ceiling is a great advancement for my obsessive brain though.

In most cases you no longer need to. Some cases where I did this:
1) To accurately place a gate - it now snaps correctly
2) Tree platform (ya, not a floor exactly) - now snaps to platform with walls, etc.

So why do you want the fence foundations on floors (I assume you mean foundations)?
