Fatal Error - Solution - Backup Restore

Edit: This fix might work if you are experiencing crashes when opening menus or other related UI crashes. I see a lot of recommendations to change video settings but I have a feeling most of these issues are related to corrupted processes / functions that are tied to your world or character.


Hi everyone,

I've been experiencing a fatal error that seems to be associated with either my single player map or character. My crashes were happening immediately when attempting to load into my single player game. I could access the game menu and join other online games with a new character. It seems my character or map were corrupted. If this description matches your experience then follow the instructions below to restore your single player game files from your backup files. This is not the same as "verifying integrity of game files".

1. Go to "\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\ARK Survival Ascended\ShooterGame\Saved\SavedArksLocal\TheIsland_WP". In this directory you should see the files listed below:

1399980138.arktribe
1399980138.tribebak
LocalPlayer.arkprofile
LocalPlayer.profilebak
TheIsland_WP.ark
TheIsland_WP_30.10.2023_04.12.38.ark
TheIsland_WP_AntiCorruptionBackup.bak

2. Create a new folder (Name the folder archive, old, or corrupted.. doesn't matter)

3. Move the following files into the archive directory you created:

1399980138.arktribe
LocalPlayer.arkprofile
TheIsland_WP.ark

4. Rename the following files in the "TheIsland_WP" directory as such:

1399980138.tribebak -> 1399980138.arktribe
LocalPlayer.profilebak - LocalPlayer.arkprofile
TheIsland_WP_AntiCorruptionBackup.bak - > TheIsland_WP.ark

My only concern with this fix is that you may lose some progress. I had just created flak armor for myself and a metal spear but it doesn't seem like I lost any progress. Just a fair warning that your results may vary.

I couldn't open the game. Even if I forced it to open with the command, I could not enter the game. After a long trial period, I have definitely found the source of the problem and solved it. The source of the problem is the operating system. Update your windows or even upgrade if possible. Identify and update your graphics card. That is all

I'm fairly certain this is the issue too. I have been playing with occasional crashes for a few days (since purchase), but just now I had a crash that won't let me resume my game, no matter if I set it to the lowest settings. It happens a few seconds after selecting to resume last session. This has all the markings of a corrupted save file.
