2nd PC needed just to host and dedicated server?!?!
Do they really expect us to buy a second PC just to host a 24/7 private server if you don't want Nitrado?!
The initial cost and ongoing electricity costs etc are never worth it.
Compared to g-portal ASE servers the Nitrado ones I rented had terrible performance.... so no thanks i guess...

Purchase a $250 laptop without a graphics card. Not from Walmart though. It'll run it fine for up to like a dozen people. (Only had 4 on mine at once so I dunno numbers).

it's moreso a feature for people who already have a second pc, I don't see why you would buy a second pc just to host servers for games without turning a profit.
also I am pretty sure you can run the server on the machine running the game

I guess to answer your question - They don't expect you to do anything. You can make whatever decision you want to host a server. If you don't want Nitrado, your option is to host your own. If you don't want to buy a dedicated box to keep a server running 24x7, then I guess you are SOL. Just play on someone else's server.

What kind of computer do you have? My pc can easily run this dedicated server and the game at the same time and have plenty of resources left over for other things also.

Plus, if you get the right server equipment, they are pennies a day to run unless electricity is outrageous where you live.

7950X3D, 4090 etc..... but I also use it for work, normal stuff and playing other games. I dont want it to run 24/7. But I want my friends to be able to play whenever they want to.
And yes... electricity is expensive where I live.

What were you doing before? Were you running an Ark Survivor Evolved Server before this? If so, what was it running on? It's really no different than before, just the roll-out sucked.

I rented servers on g-portal and a few other hosts. Also on Nitrado for 1 year but the performance was subpar and prices were high.

I run it on the same PC I'm playing from, but only have 2 people playing on it.
PC Specs aren't even that great but running and playing okay from same PC.
Med/High settings

Ryzen 5 3600
3070
32GB RAM

If you have better specs than me you should have no problem.

No, I think what have you done with your old pc's? It won't take that much to run a server. If you have an old pc with 16GB of ram it should work.

I sold them. Even if not I wouldn't be willing to run the pc 24/7 if I wasn't at home or on vacation for 3 weeks, etc. Not to mention space, noise, electricity costs and heat generation in my apartment.

But as it appears, there are only 3 real options left....
1. do not play (or just singleplayer)
2. host a 24/7 server yourself
3. nitrado

I know it seems silly.. But literally this is what people are doing. Its the only way to run it without buying into Nitrado or whatever that crap service is called. And there are many, many players greateful to the few that do this for them. Its not a think you or I would do, but some do.

This is just what I heard from NeddyTheNoodle on Youtube, but they apparently shut down his own personal server he was using, so do this at your own risk as well. Keep the receipts if you're going to buy hardware to try and run a server for yourself.

Yes I'm afraid too many people just accept it and put up with it without saying anything against it. Unfortunately, without sufficient public push back, the situation will probably not change.
