limit on the distance of 180m from the host on a non-dedicated server?
I wanted to play with my gf on a non-dedicated server and it turned out that it was impossible to move away from each other by more than 180m. Is it possible to do something about it, or do I need to rent servers on Nitrado?

This is to pretty much force you to Nitrado. They can unlock this to increase the range substantially but it's just a ploy. Non-dedicated is completely pointless at this stage.

You CAN try to host dedicated on your PC, however i havent looked into it enough for ASA. I did it without issues in ASE, but in ASA it seems like its more problematic, worth checking out tho.

The prices form Nitrado are insane, dont support them, and MAYBE we get some better settings.
Can we get some confirmation if this will be fixed for non-dedicated please?

if I find out how to fix it, I will definitely write about it here
The point of tethering is for performance reasons, as your PC acts like a Non dedicated server, and its own game and it must now allow to load the world where other people are. In Survival evolved you could increase the tether distance (don't know about ascended haven't tried it out yet). The tether isn't there to force you to rent servers, people who are saying its there to force you to rent servers from nitrado are just internet trolls.
i did see a tether distance slider in one of the settings, try putting a number like 1000 in
I found out a couple days ago that you can put tethering distance to a little over 2,000,000 in game. I have mine set to that but have not had a friend to join to see how far it is yet

Incorrect. First non-dedicated servers allow up to 8 players in a session. Tether distance should be extended and left to the host to decide what their hardware can achieve. It doesn't take much to host a non-dedicated server and as no rendering is required, CPU and Ram is all that's required, which isn't much in the grand scheme of things. I am sorry but you are incorrect, it is a ploy to force you to go Nitrado based on their latest deal which NeddytheNoodle on Youtube has made very clear as of the past couple of days and him and his community have managed to overturn the decision to allow dedicated servers to be run outside of Nitrado due to a boycot of the game.

Setting 1000 makes no difference. It's currently locked to 180m.
Hi,

It's called Tether Distance in Ark Survival Evolved. You can find some answers here https://www.technewstoday.com/ark-tether-distance/

Possible it's the same in Ark Survival Ascended? I don't have the game but it was working very well in Ark Survival Evolved.

Just one thing : if you change the Tether Distance value directly in the settings file, be careful because if you use a bad value, your character will move very fast when you go to swim in water.

And the big problem with a non-dedicated server is, if the host enters in a cave, every player on the map will be teleported too in this cave.
If a player tries to enter in a cave, he/she will be teleported immediatly close to the host, it was a big problem in every map we have played on with some friends.

This 100%

This is deliberate from Nitrado, they want your money. If everyone had 5miles tether distance and a PC to run it, like alot of us do, we wouldnt need servers.

This is buisness 101, its that simple. Fight it by not buying servers.
We now have access to the server file and can set up a dedicated server on our own computer. For those who only want to play on the LAN, it is enough to display the tools in the Steam library and download the file. You can then click on “play” and the server will start. Where you installed it you will find all the files that can be edited. Or you can simply copy the files from your singleplayer game there.

When you start your game you will find the server under “unofficial” with your Steam name
in the end, they didn't even want to solve it
I was trying to play with my wife but yeah furthest she could get away from me was like 200 meters before issues began and that's basically on other side of a large river. Plus could only play when I was online. So we joined nice unofficial server, it crashed next day and it was down for entire day due to admin of course having real life job etc.. So I just gave up and joined official PVE server. Atleast I know if we quit and come back in 2 months my character at very least will still be there... so there's that atleast.

I am not paying for a 26 slot server for just 2-3 people, stupid, plus it's basically buying a game every month at rental price. I was gonna do a dedicated server but honestly I don't want to run that on my PC constantly nor bother with trying to set it up and maintain it.

yes now on ase if you set it to 1000 you can go around the whole map away from the host i have done it on ase i tried it on asa and its still 180 even on the 1 its 180 m teathering players for a game went out with gta san-andreas but was brought back with ase they should get rid of it all together if it was a performance issue then all game would have tethering for the multiplayer when you run a non dedi your pc is only rendering wht is in front of you no wht the other player is rendering
