Nitrado only?
Is this sht real? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWswSB1DXgk&ab_channel=NOOBLETS
Is nitrado the only way to host a server? Putting aside that i have to buy the full game again (no discount for old ASE players), I am now unable to play the game with my own dedicated server? I have to pay Nitrado to host one for me? I was really dissapointed at the price tag and already low performance of the game but this sht in addition to that. I wont be getting this game if this is ever remotely true.

No that's not real. That kid is lying like crazy. Nitrado has a monopoly on rented commercial servers only. You have always been allowed to run your own server. Initially it was limited to only 1 server per game copy you owned, but that has now been eliminated and it's exactly like the original

That's out of date now, you can host dedicated servers without Nitrado

It was never in date. He was lying the whole time.

This was the case at the time of that video, yes. I've heard that some of it was changed since then but not completely and I'm guessing it was just enough to settle people down and avoid the controversy while the initial few days of sales go on.

Well thank god. Im still not sure about buying the game still, due to other reasons, but at least this puts my mind at ease. I guess i'll see how it goes.

No it wasn't the case. He was 100% wrong.

I'd wait a little longer until things get smoothed out at the very least. There's also just one map and limited dinos/items so that's kind of a down side compared to the first game (ASE). Up to you, though, of course.

He wasn't wrong. He was going off of the information that we all had at the time. Of course that doesn't matter to you so there's really not any point in discussing it further. Good day.

Nope. From the very beginning you were allowed to run one server per copy of the game you owned.

Yes, but to run any additional would require multiple copies of the game. That was the point. Yesterday evening they removed the DRM check allowing for multiple servers to be hosted without buying multiple copies.

Still, don't expect to be able to run your own server and play with friends, tethering is capped at 180m.. and there is no way to change that, seems they volontarily capped it at 180 so you have a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ experience with your friends and eventually rent out a nitrado server.

Original post was for dedicated server not for non-dedicated. Non-dedicated is like the last, last resort of not being able to get a dedicated server.

WildCard walked back the DRM for servers so you can host all the dedicated servers you want.

Also, to anyone who cares to read, ASMA (Ark Server Manager Ascended) is in active development. Very early, but being made by some of the devs from ASM.

Oh ok, my bad. Still, the choice to cap tethering, even on non-dedicated says a lot about them and nitrado. Not everyone can run a dedicated server.
Rex Nov 10, 2023 @ 11:48am
you can rent a VDS and host on that
