The idea is one PC in the house hosts a server the others join. Very easy since you don't have to fuss with external ips. But you do need internal port forwarding. I got it working in 10 minutes yesterday.

How did you set this up? I can't seem to get Steam or the Ark in-game server list to show LAN servers (in ASE there was a LAN option at server select that I am not seeing in ASA).

that is a good question im haveing the same trouble
lan can only be joined via direct console connection
better to allow the server internet axcess so its registered with survivetheark. it will point to a local ip if no ip is declared making it lan only
if the server has internet axcess but still cant axcess it the config is wrong or launch arg is wrong

Tons of guides but the principle is simple.

Log into router firewall, create exceptions for Ark. Also create typical UDP/TCP forwarding. So router now routes to and from server pc using internal ips.

I just type name of my server in search bar in join game and it's there. I do use a steam server tho.
Along with all this info, my question would be: Is it possible to run an air-gapped LAN server? I would rather not have anyone need the internet just to connect. I see about direct console connection but don't see much about how to set that up without the internet.

I use AMP game server by cubecoders it uses steam dedicated server but it's on a gui and u can manage it and update it with a button. Real easy tonuse and u can create a backup schedule as well.
