Character creation crash

I can load into a game (not official as there is no space) but then it always freezes on character creation before i can click anything, has my computer finally met its match or is this something commonly come across?

yeah that was not an option, literally the second the character screen came up it would freeze as i tried multiple times to just hit start but there was no chance and if you keep doing that you run up your play time and cant refund, happy to see my request has been approved though, s/o valve, obviously got an eye on this ♥♥♥♥ show as was quick

So, I was having this problem as well. I was able to finally get past character creation into the game. I was on lowest settings, did the -dx11 thing.

Turns out it's my graphics card. It crashed so quick I never got to see the problem. The game, when it actually runs, was maxing out my GPU at 100% (according to task manager). So I think what happens is the game overloads the GPU and it freezes.

The solution is either to buy a new PC or wait for an optimization patch. Since the map is loaded during character creation which is why that's the point of the crash.

I changed to a windowed setting and gave me a few tries, but I managed to create a character with the hair style I wanted. But I wasn't gonna give up hope.

Adding -dx11 to the launch options is an awful fix, it makes the game perform 10x worse in exchange for not crashing at start. There has to be a better fix for this.

Thanks, tried all this, and a bunch of other stuff, putting code into the startup setting of the game in Steam, and messing with the GPU acceleration in both directions. I'm still getting to the Char Creation screen and for about 3 seconds I can hear the music, then it freezes and crashes after the 120 seconds. So frustrating. The patch didn't make any difference either, but hopefully the Ark peeps can give us a fix so we can at least get into the game.

I found that if you put it in "low" settings, start a game (i'm in singleplayer), do character creations, load onto the map and then save it. From then I can exit the game and reload the game with no problems no matter the graphics settings. I'm now playing

it locks up completely on my steamdeck as soon as i try to enter character creation, even on low. doesn't even take 5 seconds

getting past character creation doesn't help. It freezes with the same error after a few seconds ingame.

it's listed as unknown currently, not that listed compatibility matters much, as it can often run things that it's marked as being unable to

Still crashing/locking up constantly at char creation. Character creation screen is super bright and washed out too. No idea why.
