dedicated servers for self hosting?

are we gonna get dedicated servers for self hosting at all or is this just going to be nitrado only, if so this game despite the good graphics is not worth the buy to begin with, as this is what made the game great and gave it a huge following was the freedom of mods and self hosting of a server to play with friends, if this does not carry over from the old to the new it will fail...

Is this a verification from you that this is how it works? Because I am not sure that this would be the case at all.

i can confirm this is the case we tried to launch on our own account to play it logged server out and crashed i refunded the game after

If they dont do that, i have a feeling gamers wont play for very long. But i have a tiny feeling they are going to make the server files for us to download. This game looks so amazing. so i really hope they release the server files.

Server files are released for download. You have to login under steamcmd using your credentials and not anonymous. They have on the server files for billing type of Store / CD Key which states you need to own the game.

Coming from running ASM, is there a tutorial somewhere on how to setup an ASA server? I have the server installed through steamcmd, no clue where to go from here.

If you download the server files trough steamcmd you won't be able to launch it. You have to use the desktop version of the steam client and log in to a steam account that has a valid subscription for the game itself and launch the server trough the desktop client.

Basically you can only run exactly 1 server per steam account (with a purchased game) per windows machine or VM (because you cannot run the desktop steam client multiple times on the same OS).

Some people wrote in the official Ark discord that if you download the server, launch it once, stop it then put the desktop steam client to offline mode you will be able to launch the server again without issues and launch the game with the same account on your machine to connect it but I didn't tested this.

When I figured out that I will need to use 12 different windows desktop installations (on 12 different machines or VMs) in the future to run a cluster for every map for our community I refunded the game.

I just downloaded the server files via Steam CMD and it looks like its missing a bunch of stuff I cant find the server launch file nor the config files. Anyone else got this issue?

Same here, I tried using steamcmd to download the files, however after I got them downloaded when i went to fire off the server it told me i needed steam installed, Once i got steam installed, and ran the files the server would just crash. I then went into steam and told it to download the "Tools" Version of The ASA server, as soon as I installed it and ran it, it kicked me out of the "Game" Version since it was on the other system. I logged back into my Game account and then it kicked me out of the server. I am "Not" going to buy another copy of this game just so i can run it as a dedicated, and I refuse to deal with Nitrado due to the crap ive had to work with them before (Bad Customer service). I guess this is how Nitrado and SWC are going to make back their money.

You only can host private server even dedicated server through Nitrado. Nothing you can do about it atm.

beware you cannot join your own server unless you have another machine with another account and another asa license.

That makes sense, in ase you had to make your own bat to run and it generated a config file after first launch.

I can get it to download and install the arkdedicatedserver application, running it just opens steam and says app configuration unavailable

Which app id you used to download the dedicated server? I am using 2399830 but there are no server files in the binaries folder.
