Scratch my first reply. I was incorrect. You can choose any soundtrack in setting after loading the save. You can also swap modes there as well. Basically settings menu is more expanded when you have loaded the save.
And no it's not tied down to classic mode, you can swap soundtrack whenever you feel like it.
Did you load the save file? These options are not available in the main menu settings.
