I ask chatGPT and look at what I got:

In Japan, the name "Royd" does not have a direct translation or equivalent in Japanese. It is not a commonly used Japanese name, and its origin and meaning are not rooted in the Japanese language or culture.

Japanese names are typically written using kanji characters, and they often carry specific meanings or have historical and cultural significance. It is possible that some parents in Japan might use the name "Royd" for their child as a creative or unique choice, but it would not have a specific Japanese translation or meaning.

If you are looking for Japanese names with similar sounds or meanings, it may be more appropriate to explore authentic Japanese names or consult Japanese name dictionaries or resources.

If you're looking for Japanese names that sound similar to "Royd," here are a few options:

Ryota (りょうた): This is a common Japanese boy's name that has a similar sound to "Royd."

Ryohei (りょうへい): Another option with a similar sound, it is a combination of the elements "ryo" (涼), meaning "refreshing" or "cool," and "hei" (平), meaning "calm" or "level."

Ryu (りゅう): This name has a similar sound to "Royd" and means "dragon" in Japanese.

Ryuki (りゅうき): It combines "ryu" (竜), meaning "dragon," and "ki" (輝), meaning "radiance" or "shine."

Please note that while these names may have similar sounds to "Royd," they may have different meanings and cultural associations. It's always a good idea to consult with native Japanese speakers or resources to ensure accuracy and cultural appropriateness when choosing a Japanese name.

Well, he is australian, so he doesn't have a japanese name. His name in japanese version of the game was ロイド (because it is written in Katakana it shows that it doesn't have japanese origin), which is translated as Royd or Lloyd (both spellings are correct).

Not sure, although some like those who translated the SNES version, where guessing that it was supposed to be Lloyd or Loyd, because of the L and R pronunciation in Japanese.

Although when Square-Enix kept the name for later versions, it was then obvious that it was always supposed to be Royd............probably.

I've never met anyone named 'Roid' but I know of many Lloyds.

Official translation is whack and worse than fan translation.
Unfortunately you can't use fan translation in this remake.
