Game is a buggy mess, especially in VR.

Having a blast. Have 1800h in ACC but after a longer break I didn't really feel going back and purchased LMU and I don't regret it. Some work neded on the FF for the slow corners but overall feels well polished for being EA and early in its development cycle (considering the genre)

This is my first sim racing game so I can’t offer any comparisons to other titles such as iRacing or ACC.

What I can say though is that I cannot put this game down. I know the main attraction of this game to a lot of people will be the Hypercars but for me it’s all about the LMGT3 cars. I’m not sure it’s possible to put into words how good it is to put in some consistent laps with these cars.

I have a fairly entry level Fanatec setup but the game does a good job of giving you an idea of the weight of the car and where the limit is. I’m by no means a good driver, probably not even average but this game gives you a feeling of achievement when you finally nail that tricky corner, when you set a new personal best and when you get that first win/podium in an online race. There are few games that leave me with a surge of adrenaline and excitement when playing but I’m happy to say this game is one of them.

I’ve experienced some ♥♥♥♥♥♥ racing online, not as bad as playing Forza online (not a sim I know!) but equally I’ve had some fantastic and fair battles for position that I look back on and it’s those moments that make me want to play again.

There’s a replay feature so you can watch your races and I’ve spent a lot of time looking at what I’ve done wrong to try and improve.

There is an offline mode in this where you can customise your own multi or single class races. It’s a good mode to start out in and to use the practice mode to learn and refine. But let’s be honest you probably aren’t buying this for the offline mode. Online is absolutely where it’s at.

There are daily, weekly and special races. The daily races are actually nicely timed and spaced out so you won’t ever be waiting too long to get into a race. I haven’t experienced a weekly or special race yet.

One thing I wish they would implement would be a notice to let you know the race is about to start, if you’re in an online practice lobby it won’t automatically kick you out and into the race lobby. You’ll have to keep an eye on the time or set a timer on your phone to prompt you to leave and join the race lobby.

My other negative so far about the game would be the need to buy additional DLC to actually access more than one LMGT3 car, which by the way is the car you will drive most when starting out in online races. If you just buy the game you’ll get access to the McLaren (which is actually a free download alongside a BMW Hypercar).

Now you could just buy the individual DLC but let’s be honest you will want all the cars and tracks at some point down the line so realistically you’ll look to buy the Season Pass. The Season Pass costs more than the actual game itself to buy.

Now I understand the need to make money and the car and track models are great. But when you’re just starting out it does leave a slightly bad taste in your mouth to have access to one LMGT3 car after buying the game.

With that out of the way, I will be buying the Season Pass. Is that hypocritical? Maybe, but this game feels so good to play that I’m willing to look past it. I also understand other racing sims offer a similar buy to race what cars and tracks you want model.This is just some thoughts of someone new to sim racing.

On a slightly different note I maybe think I shouldn’t have gotten into sim racing… I’m already looking at cockpits and a VR headset for that extra immersion. No doubt I’ll update this review with the hours I anticipate putting into this game.
