Direct Drive Wheel Question
I am curious of anyone's experience with a direct drive steering wheel in LMU versus a standard (not sure what to label) wheel. I have a Logitech G29, which has served me well for many years. I am now looking at upgrading to Logitech's G pro direct drive wheel and was hoping to get some feedback from any direct drive wheel users and if it is worth the money to upgrade to a direct drive wheel.

Thank you for any feedback

I upgraded from a G29 to a Fanatec DD1 around 4 years ago. The difference is remarkable. Better resistance, Tons of detail, smoother more linear but less digital feedback. Once you've dialled in the FFB on a particular sim to your DD wheel, you'll never look back. There is a bit of a learning curve to get it all feeling perfect but it really can feel like your driving with rubber tyres and suspension even to the point where you can actually feel a tyre skim a high kerb. It's very immersive. I found that driving with a DD wheel resulted in 90% less time spinning or losing control than with the G29.

Thank you very much, you probably convinced me to go for it. I just ordered a DOF Reality full motion rig, so going with a direct drive wheel will be next on my list. I will not get the motion rig for 6 weeks plus, so I hope to get the direct drive before the rig gets here. Thanks again.

I would say its a big upgrade from a G29, The Logitech DD sounds like its pretty nice

I have the fanatec csl DD 8nm and its a massive upgrade from something like a G29 is like a toy in comparison.

Im pretty sure the logitech DD is just a little stronger so it could be a really good choice.

I think all the DD wheels are going to be a massive upgrade in smoothness and quality of feedback/power delivery, also no strange gear noises or anything like that. The speed is instant probably 10 times faster or more than a g29 a bit scary if it goes crazy lol.

The wheel rims as well are just much higher quality closer to life size and need to be strong enough to take some force.

The only con of the logitech dd is it doesnt have a big eco system to buy different wheel rims or accessory's.

Either way if you can afford to purchase one I would recommend it lol

I went from a Logitech G923 to a MOZA R9 and I haven't touched my Logitech since.

Thank you, sounds like I cannot go wrong with getting a DD wheel. I really like the Logitech, and it looks like their eco system is expanding.

Recently Logitech announced additional items for the DD wheel.

You can now buy just buy the direct drive wheel base without the standard round steering wheel and then customize the order with wheel hub, and two style wheels, GT and round.

They also released a universal wheel adapter to accept other manufacturer's wheels, such as Fanatec.

In January they are releasing two Momo wheels to mount to the wheel hub, GT and round version. I will probably hold out until the Momo wheels are available and get one of them. My motion rig probably will not come until February, so I have some time to wait it out.

Thanks again for the input.

I come from t150 , when I compare to my csl dd the t150 was kind of just vibrating and I had to translate depending from what seeing. It made me good at guessing what's going on only with my eyes and now the combination of this and the more detailed and powerful ffb made me a better driver. Now I only crash when the limit finds me.

Csl dd boosted is 8nm, but I suggest you a higher torque wheel; I wanted the moza r12 but it wasn't available at the time and r16 with all the rest costed too much for me.

You can't go wrong with a DD I guess but I suggest you to choose carefully and consider other brands too

Thanks for the input everyone
Moza R9 or R12 - It is expensive when you consider that you'll need a wheel for the base as well, but they have the R9 base and KS wheel bundle for like $600, and then the SR-P pedals are about $140. This is all considering you have a simpit frame or something to mount them to. They do make a table clamp base for the R9.

If you don't want to deal with all that, I think your logic of going with the new Logitech DD wheel is probably a decent idea as I have heard it is a good product. Direct drive is far superior to the older mechanical/gear type wheels.

Thank you. I have a static sim rig, but a few weeks ago ordered a DOF Reality H3, which will be here in a couple of weeks. I hope to get the Logitech DD wheel by the time the H3 arrives.
Nice! if you went with an actual motion platform, you should have opted for something similar to the Moza R9/R12 bundle, with the SRP pedals, honestly. The Logitech DD wheel is going be more of an entry level setup that works better for a non-dedicated simrig platform. Since you spent so much on that H3, I highly suggest looking into Moza. The software for the Moza environment is great as well.

I will look into it. Thanks
I had (and for the moment, still have) a G29 and I've loved it since I first got it 5 years or so ago. But I've dipped a toe into the DD water with a Cammus C5 which was a christmas gift. I'm sure many will consider it 'lightweight' but for me it has made a huge difference to the enjoyment I have driving LMU. I'm still getting used to it (and the pedals that came with it) but I've already started to improve my times. I would certainly suggest you upgrade to a DD wheel, I suspect you won't regret it.

Switched from a T300RS to a Moza R16 with the KS GT Wheel and was genuinly blown away by how much better this feels. Nothing wrong with my old T300 it served me well for quite some years now but the R16 is on a completely different level. Now i can feel so much stuff i didn't even know was there and the precision is something aswell. Yeah and loadcell pedals of course. Got T-LCMs last year and that was also a gamechanger
