Another game ruined by localization hell. Sasuga shiravune.
Outside usual braindead localization choices like swapped name order and removed honorifics, there's a lot of other terrible things done in this "translation"

I'll only leave this and say, vote with your wallets.

Edit
It's actually way worse than this mentioned in main post above. Someone just posted it in this thread.

I don't get that subreddit, they used to post screenshots of NekoNyan localizations with stuff like "ji~~~~" translated as "stares in Japanese" and they freaking LOVED it (read that thread, the only guy who criticized the localization got downvoted by 50+ people). But now another publisher does it and it's bad because uhhh?

There's no other way to translate a comedy VN anyway. You're out of touch if you think anybody's gonna laugh at jokes with massive TL notes at the top of the screen lmao. They'll laugh at the absurdity of it I guess, and then refund the game.
I hold that it's fine to localize a joke that way so long as there is a translator note within at least some separate supplementary material explaining the more literal translation of the joke and why it was localized the way it was.

While that XYZ person did get a bit too heated up, everything that he said about that subreddit is all true. they are the very people who will blow things out of proportions .

also incase anyone is interested the translator also further elaborated on the matter later on

and while the Editors may have gone a bit overboard its not that bad as what some of these people are making it out to be.

Yes it is THIS bad. I'll never be able to enjoy something butchered THIS much.
If you don't give a damn about the original, source culture and writing style and what the creators worked on - cool. But don't try to tell others to enjoy something that is literally the opposite of what they hope for.

"I'll sooner trust anyone hired by companies than random people on the internet."
Unironically the most room temperature IQ take of all time. The localization industry is an incestuous pit of proven compulsive liars, you would be wiser to trust a rat salesman in the Black Plague than anybody working for these companies.
Little update where I am once again proven right, the dude who translated the game and is bootlicking for their edits thinks you and the entire country of Japan are pedophiles. If you use his words in any authoritative manner then I can only describe you in terms that go against Steam's TOS.

Watering down the P word is not okay, I refuse to continue support both Shira and NNs.

Here's hoping somebody does a fan patch or something to fix Nukitashi so that we can enjoy the original work at least in some way.
Man, whatever editor approved of this and modified the lines to be more like a Borderlands game that's trying too hard to be "self aware" and "edgy" should honestly stay far the hell away from anything anime adjacent. They already ruined western AAA and indie game writing with this meta whedonesque twitch millennial twitter-user writing.

As is such with modern Twitter political discourse. The terms "racist", "sexist", etc failed in to groom the public to play into the cult that's their unhinged terminally online culture war nonsense, so now they're using an extremely loaded term (that has a lot of meaning outside of their accusations) to effectively shut down any sort of legitimate conversation about how wrong they are. They use the term "touch grass" often, but realistically 99% of them aren't doing anything outside of doom-scrolling Twitter in their bed on a phone. It's just a never-ending stream of people calling each other Epstien or Demons at this point, and the way to win is to simply not engage with either of them. Nobody who actually has a job and a life outside work actually cares this much about moral panicking.

That's literally what Nukitashi is in the original. Except instead of Western Memes and buzzwords, its with Japanese ones.

It's been actually hilarious to see like 9 out of 10 people who complain about the translation act as if Nukitashi was some sort of Shakespearean novel that was bastardized by the translation team when it was and will always bee a meme eroge with an absurd premise and situations made to just make people laugh at the silliness/cringiness of it and that's it.

I swear to go non of you would laugh even one single bit if you were able to read the original, as you literally need to be a native to get the references and jokes. And even then you would still struggle, that's how obscure some of the jokes are.

Example: セミになりきったプレイをしている者もいた

I guarantee that the few ones that can read that, won't even get that that line is supposed to be a joke.

"We need to localize a Japanese niche fetish porn game so general audiences will..."

Probably one of the most idiotic takes ever. General audiences not familiar with anime and visual novel fandom aren't walking into Walmart and buying these games folks.

You wanna localize Onigiri to Jelly donuts because some little kid is gonna turn on the TV and watch Pokemon, absolutely.

If you are "localizing" niche 18+ fetish games, that's just plain stupid. We sure as hell aren't buying them for US political jokes or sitcom references.

Just want simple translations, thanks.
mfw eops unironically complain about politics in tl when original game was political af

It's the same I'd rather play in japanese if I don't understand sh1t I'll do research myself rather than playing Americanized? version and still don't get the joke. It's two birds with one stone.

Btw it's like my native tongue we have tons of idiom that can be used interchangeable with Japanese in manga/light novel localization, but the difference is we don't use or even have these internet obscure buzzwords like neckbeard or Chud that only can be understood after you look into urban dictionary website. If the word is otaku then it'll be otaku in final print.

I don't personally mind it being Americanized I understand that they have to localize obscure jokes it's mostly inevitable(it's still true to me that I understand more easy Japanese jokes than English one tho, like the beginning of the game, when Asane told her bro to call her name so she can respond him a joke)
My only few complaints are the words like I mentioned above and the translator himself watering down the p*do word calling their co-workers p*dos. This dude should be fired or else I hold those companies accountable for their employee.

Asides from the fact you cut off the first line, it's nowhere near as profound as you're trying to make it sound.

It's certainly no reason to replace the joke with "bazinga". How many people are going to throw out that word during sex? If anything, all you're highlighting is that the TLer or editor didn't understand the joke.

But here's the bigger problem. This particular gag carries over into the second game. And the English localisation does not work with that in mind given the overall punchline of the human cicada contest.

Yeah right, now I'm curious why cicada? It has something to do with Japanese joke or it's just its own story setting?

Basically this comes down to the onomatopoeia for the sounds they make, and the fact that sex sounds are being used in a similar pattern to mimic them. The joke for the second game in that video is that the winner didn't use sex sounds and then got called a baby cicada for it.

Plus, cicada are a big part of Japanese summer. Want to show it's summer in manga for example? Cicada noises.

And to paraphrase another dubious TL choice, "Bazinga ain't it, chief."
