Not at all! The opening of the game is pretty gentle. The trick will be getting a good starting equipment set going, finding local treasures and trouble without being overwhelmed, and learning how to navigate the map.
After that, just keep your character well fed and stocked on water. The rest will slowly fall into place as you gain skills and experiment with what you can do. The game is very sandboxy. It won't hold your hand, but it won't punish you too badly either.
