Parry bug?
Using a +50% parry chance wooden shield, it gives me 137 parry. Pairing it with a +40% parry, raises my total to 138. Only 1 parry from a 40% boost? Sword by itself is giving me 98

Could you describe the exact scenario for me to replicate, or better yet, provide the save file on Discord so I can take a look?

Sorry this was on the guy that Broke himself. But even on my current character; im noticing the +20% parry bonus from his shield isnt affecting his parry total at all (50% bonus from spear)

Only highest source of parry works.

So if you have +20% from shield, and equip a rapier that has +40%, you'll end up with +40% parry - not 60%.

That +1 parry was probably due to stats on shield, not parry bonus AFAIK.

Yes, only the highest parry among each hand matters, and shields have a bonus of 30% of the weapon parry to make them a little better than dual-wielding.

I'll add it to the parry tooltip to make it clearer in the game.

I believe that the participants in this forum would have fewer questions if they at least sometimes visited the game's discord channel, where this kind of thing has already been discussed.

Thanks i was kind of assuming that might be the case it was the only thing that made sense after swapping gear around

i'll do that later; this is the kind of game i like fully exploring on my own without spoilers and guides etc. Regardless some things are unclear or counter intuitive and need ironed out, community can answer questions but that just masks the problem

Well, in general, everyone who is in the game’s discord channel is, to one degree or another, involved in identifying bugs, making suggestions, etc.
The topic of bugs in discord is very extensive and, more than likely, what Steam users discovered is also already in discord.

As for parrying specifically, the chance of parrying, this has already been raised in discussions, at least once during my presence there. Also, just yesterday I described a test of parry counters to check their work with a weapon in each hand.

In general, you are likely to lose more by remaining in the dark. In addition, the topics of the channel have a clear division and you can simply not visit those that involve game spoilers.

now that i've swapped to a weapon with no parry bonus; the 20% bonus from my shield is still increasing the total parry by nothing

Are you sure that the same 20% doesn’t give you anything else?

So, this is how I assume parry works:
Depending on your weapons, shield and stats, you get a base parry value (passives can add some too), which then gets multiplied by maximum parry bonus you have. And only biggest values are taken into account (you don't get partial values for dualwielding).

For daggers:
Dex - 1 point of dex gives ~1.5 parry chance
Str - 1 point of str gives ~0.5 parry chance

For axes:
Dex - 1 point of dex gives ~0.7 parry chance
Str - 1 point of str gives ~1.3 parry chance

For swords:
Dex - 1 point of dex gives ~1 parry chance
Str - 1 points of str gives ~1 parry chance

For maces:
Str - 1 point of str gives ~1.5 parry chance
Dex - 1 point of dex gives ~0.5 parry chance

For polearms:
Str - 1 point of dex gives ~0.7 parry chance
Dex - 1 point of dex gives ~1.3 parry chance

For bare hands:
Str/Dex doesn't give any parry chance.

Having shield equipped:
Str - 1 point of str gives ~1.5 parry chance
Dex - 1 point of dex gives ~0.5 parry chance

So swapping main hand weapon when your highest base parry and best parry chance comes from your shield does literally nothing. The only way to upgrade it would be to find either a weapon with better base parry scaling then the shield or find something that has higher parry +% bonus (e.g. a rapier with +40% parry bonus should work if your shield got only +20%).

This was tested using console commands to set the stats to round values (either 100 str and 1 dex, or 100 dex and 1 str) and equipping weapons and shields in different combinations.
