Can multiple races start families?
Considering that, at time of writing, Settlement Management is slated to come out tomorrow, i'm wondering how restrictive the process of starting a family would be. Mainly, would two characters of different races be able to start families? How would two people from pre-existing families work? Can an orc and a lizardman have a child together? How would that work?

either way, as a certified Fanatic Xenophile, i certainly hope that you can make one big inter-species family.

Can't, that would require new portraits for every race combo.

i wasnt exactly thinking of combinations of races, more so that it just picks one of the two parents and then just goes with that race. (eg with the Lizardman and Orc example from the topic post, if they have a child that child is just a 50-50 chance to be either a lizardman or an orc. no need for complicated genetic algorithms.

I like this idea, It'd be nice for player choice and roleplay to be able to have "half breed" family's, Unique portraits would be a nightmare so understandable on that being a no go but A simple race name change to be "half (Dominant race)" with a slight mix of stats and the portrait just being a 50/50 of which parent it pulls from would be awesome.

Hell i imagine a fairly easy way to even do portraits would be to just allow unusual racial skin colours reserved only for half breeds. So half elf-goblins would be able to have green skin on an otherwise normal elf.

That sounds doable, I'll think about it some more. Building a town for genetic experiments would befit an evil mastermind. :D

This sounds like a job for Benevolent Necromancer Overlord. Conducting experiments in blending bloodlines to create the perfect body for themselves to jump into (and being a lich in the meantime to live long enough to see all the breeding programs through).

Why Benevolent? Well, that's a matter of good PR with your own people. Keeping them safe for centuries and giving sanctuary to wayward travelers...

i really do hope that, when the time comes around for family management to become a thing, that multi-racial families are just a normal (if not commonly found without player interference) thing, rather than an explicitly evil thing
So how to start family? My character is an orphan btw.

Step one:
Wait for Artur to get around to implementing it, in whatever form that may be

I would love to see this as an option, 50-50 chance seems fair enough.

I am now creating a scenario for my ongoing D&D campaign.

There will be a lich that is dedicated to saving the world by selectively breeding the prophesied one.

Eh, would prefer not. Doesn't make sense for most of the races, hows a an Elf supposed to have kids with a Mushman for example? Or a Bear with a Human?

If this gets added, would be best to keep it limited to player interaction, or else NPC towns will stop being representative of their respective races after a couple centuries ingame and be filled with mixes. If I go to a Lizardmen town, I expect to see lizardmen. Not a bunch of randoms. Maybe make it toggle-able if it does get added.

Make it restrict to some certain race then? Like in most fantasy setting

So, I asked this question earlier in the year and was awarded community jester for the question.

Essentially, it can be modded in and isn't really planned for official implementation. It would be difficult to implement at this point and isn't really a priority.
