STR: 1
AGI: 6
VIG: 1
PER: 10
Ranged: 6 (perks: Vital shot, Quick Draw)
Negotiation: 1
Science: 2
I will explain why is that. Your main character has to be kind of a sniper, that always stays in the back and supports the squad. And there are several reasons for that. You are not getting any decent ranged up until day10. Yea i don't like Bud, he's low on AP and Joel is just a waste of ammo, he's a terrible shot. You have to make true shots when they are needed, and you need to conserve ammo too, so there's no room for misses. Also you cant risk your main character too much. That being said the perfect role for him is - sniper support.
STR - you don't need strength, you are not going to melee at all, AC doesnt matter, and you are not going to be a pack mule.
VIG - you don't need vigor, you are not supposed to get hit at all, well at least early on.
PER - you need 10 to be accurate with ranged weapons and always be first to act (to use leadership commands)
AGI - 6 is enough to get started, you get 10AP which is fine.
Science 2 - i figured you may encounter alarm that needs to be disarmed on the first day, and also its easy to throw another point there early on for Inventor perk, that will save you gas quite a bit.
Negotiation 1 - it was an excess point, but its worth it, cause you want 6 points in it by day4 anyways. I believe it also contributes a little to your daily morale.
Ok now some of my major principles to get you oriented:
— i DO feed people with rats and worms, i'm negating morale penalty with luxury items, morale bonuses, negotiation etc. Because all these perfectly edible food counts toward the food goal which results in a few extra experience points.
— i'm getting a lot of allies early on so that they build stuff faster. Which results in mood gains, morale gains, car, experience points, etc. Its totally worth it.
— i'm exploring as many locations per day as i can, and bringing all food/gas/luxury/antibiotics asap, all of those count toward goals and give you experience faster.
— I also don't run any designated medics in the squad. I'm taking my time and executing some serious tactics so that my people are not getting hurt too much. Any character with 2 in medicine will do, to heal up some scratches along the way.
Alright, lets get started.
carry on
Choose Anita.
Sweep the shelter, stock everything.
Give baseball bat and a medical kit to Anita, a hammer to Joel. Your main character takes a snubnose revolver with ammo (and ammo for a shotgun). Leave everything else in storage.
Total morale: 0
Constructions in progress: none
Party: Anita, Joel
Hit Llano Commercial. Give picklock to Anita.
Hit Downtown Splendid. Pull enemies one by one very carefully. Disarm alarm on the cityhall. Stash all your stuff from both locations in the very first trasher here. Take sawed off shotgun with your main character. You are so lucky if you got yourself Marksman Gloves here, i didnt. But if you did you should give em to your main character, they give 10% accuracy with ranged weapons, best gloves for ranged.
Hit Llano residential. After you clear all zombies bash out the front door of the looters house and try to oneshot the pistol armed guy with your sawed-off, then just melee/shoot them down. You can have up to 3-4 antibiotics from here if you are lucky. I had 2.
Return to Downtown Splendid and stash all new stuff in your trasher.
Hit Mason Supermarket. Clear the area, then lure out zombies from the supermarket itself, there are yet too many of them there to have in a single fight. You can have up to 1 or 2 antibiotics here. I had 1.
Return to Downtown Splendid. Now just max out your characters carry weight with gas (you should have 13+ galons), parts, food, luxuries etc. And do THREE transfers from here to your shelter. You cant transfer everything even in three runs, so just prioritise. Unused weapons, armor, rotten fruits, medical stuff, and food that gives 10+ value is THE LOWEST priority. Transfer everything else first. You can transfer the rest later on in the game. You should have a second baseball bat now, give it to Joel.
Your party got fatigue debuff, no big deal, just use 3 energy drinks.
I got all of my characters beat up pretty hard, but nothing critical.
Total morale: 10 (i negated the -200 penalty for the broken fence in the 1st day)
Constructions: Fence repair (Davis repairs 31 units of the fence)
Party: Anita, Joel, Renee
Armor up Renee, and give her a hammer. This is the first and last scavenging party for her. This is also last run for Joel so make them both have all the unavoidable damage today. Cause it doesnt matter if they get fatigued or damaged, they will have a plenty of time to heal up in the shelter for the next days. Personally i had Renee down to 1 hp, i almost got her killed, but she made it.
Hit Old Church. Disarm alarm on the first house. Pick the front door on the church and lure out zombies one by one. You can have up to 2 antibiotics here. I had 1.
Hit Downtown San Saba. Many zombies here, just take your time, kill one by one. Clear out all zombies. Shoot the looter in the church. Bash out the pharmacy doors. Pickup Oscar and Melina. At this point you may have 10+ antibiotics in total if you were super lucky before, but i only have 6 which is still ok for tomorrow.
Hit Carmichael's Garage. On the way here you triggered the Craig and Karen encounter, pick em up. Pickup Jodie at garage.
Return to shelter. Take all stuff off the newcomers, Joel and Renee, and stock it.
317hrs, ive only got a 100 and feel like a tourist(last played in december before the new patch intrigued me)
on my side(not here to hijack), i actually manage to get my +40 moral per day now, i may just succeed after all, but, ironically i got infected by the last ninja zombie of a map while i was sorting out my inventory...i ll restart
as a suggestion, depending on what you aim to do, maybe making your diary feel a bit more lively could be nice(storytelling), if you plan to make a guide, it s great that way and you should ignore my suggestion
keep it up
Total morale: 81
Constructions: Recycler (Joel, Renee, Karen, Davis, Jodie)
Party: Anita, Oscar, Craig
This day is important and depending on how many antibiotics you have you may play it a bit different from here. So if you have 5 or more antibiotics you can skip Brady Pharmacy for now. If not, you better go there. I've got 5 but i decided to go to Brady anyways. So first thing in the morning go to Davis and tell him you got the medicine. Now i got 0 antibiotics ^_^
Armor up Oscar, he's going to have his butt kicked today. Give Oscar a police baton, Give Craig a baseball bat, you can arm yourself with just a pistol today. Just in case any nasty random encounter. Other than that its going to be only zombies today.
Hit Brady Pharmacy. Stash all stuff in the trasher, take only important stuff with you (5 antibiotics, parts, gas), you will need a lot of free space today. And you can always come back here later.
Hit Menard Graveyard. Pickup Nathan.
Hit Old Neighborhood. Pickup Bud. WARNING! they added a couple zombies in to the basement, that was unexpected.
Hit Truck Stop. Pick up Mark, Michiru and Ryan. If you cant fit a couple of items - prioritize as we did on day1, you can pick up the rest later.
Return to shelter. Strip off the new guys as usual. Before you end this day its a good idea to use some mood boosting items: spices for Mark, coffee for Craig, cigar for Nathan, deodorant for Karen, and bourbon for Bud. But save the pills for now if you have any. Also its time to spend your experience points. Throw 5 more in to Negotiation, choose +5 +10 morale perks. Throw one more in to science, choose Inventor perk. I have 1 point left, i will just keep it for now.
Belive it or not i had three random encounters today, did they raise the chance for those in hardcore? Or am i just THAT unlucky ...
Total morale: 218
Constructions:
Well (Oscar, Mark, Karen, Jodie, Joel, Davis, Renee, Ryan)
Radio (Craig)
Party: Anita, Bud, Nathan
Its an important day for Renee, you choose her perk today. Go for +morale perk, tell her "people always ... bla bla".
Since my party has a nice survival skill i decided to only have one baseball bat and a picklock on Anita, and tossed all other gear in storage. We are not going to fight today but we sure will need free pockets, the only way we can screw up is if we happen to have a random encounter. But i hope high enough survival skill will allow to just skip it.
Hit Mansion. Pickup Sandy. Just bash the back door out with the bat. One hit then wait for noise to go down, then hit again ...
Hit The Wicked Lily. Pickup Amie. Same here just bash the door out.
On the way back you may want to visit Brady again and pickup some more loot from your trasher, depends if you have any space left.
Go to shelter. Strip off new guys, give away mood boosts, usual stuff.
Total morale: 215
Constructions:
Chicken Coop (Amie, Mark, Sandy)
Workshop (Jodie, Oscar, Karen, Joel, Renee, Davis, Nathan)
Activities:
Ryan - English teacher
Party: Anita, Bud, Craig
My daily morale was positive (it was +1 ^_^ i almost blew it up). The reason today's morale is lower than yesterday is because when you stock rats and worms your penalty applies to total morale, not to daily morale. You may ask why morale income is so low on day4, the thing is I stashed a lot of luxury items in the trasher yesterday and i also screwed up with food found bonus 48.5 instead of 50 so i blew 20 morale T_T.
On day6 you wont get new allies, but you already have a lot of people in shelter, so you are going to face a huge morale hit without that fancy daily morale bonuses, thats why you need to be prepared for it ahead of time. Like stashing some luxuries in trasher or what not.
Ok, its getting a bit hairy from now, the morale decay scares me a little, so today i have a choice, either im going for Pepper or not. Im not sure if the dogs count towards daily morale, they propably do. Long story short i decided to go for it anyways just for the sake of resources.
Since we're also going for Summer Camp today, we should have Chicken Coop ready by the time we return with chicken, also bring up all arrows with you, we're getting a bow and we maybe going to use it.
Armor up Craig he s going to be a hero today. The downside is Bud and Anita got fatigued from yesterday, and i'm saving up on energy drinks so its going to go ugly.
Hit Summer Camp. If you are lucky you may have 3 chicken, only 2 if not. I got 3. Get your bows, pickup Sara and Mia.
Hit Junkyard. This was a hell of a fight. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=444338195
Lots of zombies. Had to use bow several times. Barely made it, lots of lucky hits.
Pick up Pepper.
I also stashed 30 parts in the trasher to have a morale bonus tomorrow.
There, we made it! This is one of the most important days in the game for me. Everything i have done so far worked perfectly on regular difficulty before patch. But now its time to make some major decisions because hardcore doesnt allow to sweep the whole map in two weeks. The reason for this is that on hardcore your party gets fatigue debuff at 8 pm, your main character gets one at 11 pm. But thare are not THAT many energy drinks, so you can forget about clearing 3 locations per day. The way to fix this is to go for horsies. But first of all its a pretty tough fight early on, also i'm not sure i will make it back before 3 am, and more to that i need to visit my trasher to bring parts and food for morale bonuses. If i will not make it with the bonuses i risk to face a negative daily morale and stuff may go downhill from here.
Ok i figured it out. And it went fine.
First, how i dealt with incoming morale hit. I did not finish the workshop yesterday so it could be finished today. Also today i finished the mobile radio upgrade, and i built the gym in 10 hrs. Every finished upgrade adds 20 morale. Also today is the day Max arrives, and he's going be unhappy. But gym boosts his mood to ok just like that. Also i did made it to the farm, to my trasher, and back to shelter before 3 am (it was in fact 2:40 or smth really close) So i did bring food, parts, and luxuries. Yay, plan worked!
Next how i made the whole trip to happen. I just maxed out party's survival skill. I had Bud (5), Nathan (4), and believe it or not Doug (4) (he also happened to be not so terrible shooter). So 13 survival in total makes it happen. And i only needed 2 energy drinks for me and Bud.
Total morale: 256
Constructions: Mobile radio (10 hrs), Gym (10 hrs), Workshop (8 hrs)
Party: Bud, Nathan, Doug
Hit The Equestrain Stable. Alright so i used 3 ranged 1 melee for this. Could have been just 3 ranged though. I decided to bring all firepower i got cause you never know what will work better. So i had: 3 bows (10 arrows), a hunting rifle (4 ammo), a police shotgun (plenty of ammo). I also had one glock and a lever action rifle but those didnt come handy. I also picked up a second police shotgun which i also used, and picked up a crossbow which i used the most. Cant say it was too hard, it was alright. I only spawned a couple of additional zombies but they stayed right where they spawned cause i closed the main door. Funny though, dogs can open doors! wtf ^_^
All in all i got one more bow, one crossbow, some fancy armor, aluminum bat, one more chicken, and HORSIES ofc.
At the shelter Doug rigged up the system so now we can solve those passwords to grab some skillpoints. In fact i have a bunch of skillpoints already but i stall those for now cause you never know ... Also i got one attribute point which goes to agility, we need to max out on agility first, then its going to be either strength or vigor, depends on incoming damage scaling.
you know...cause i m jealous...
Total morale: 242 (yup, feeding people rats again)
Constructions: Rooftop Garden (12 hrs), Watchtower (90 hrs)
Activities: Melina manufactures silenced glock's
Nothin' fancy today. Just ridin' them horsies, killin' some zombies. The goal for the next week is to stabilize all allies. Atm i require ~60 extra morale to avoid going negative, so i need to build some upgrades, to raise some moods, so that i'm not going negative even without external help. Until then its not ideal to bring any more allies.
Hit Abandoned Camp.
Hit Pleasant Street Library. No luck with the medical book here =\ The fight was brutal, i got my main character down to 25% hp. Tazer helped a lot.
Hit Memorial Park.
I'm also thinking if i should bring any creeps around like Clifford or Grant. Its tempting to go for Full House achievement for the sake of it, but i'm not sure if its even possible to feed them all on hardcore.
PRO tip #1 :: Combat mode is your friend.
Hit spacebar to enter the combat mode and check around for "unexpected red squares" which represent that you cant move to that square. You guessed it, that's an enemy trying to ambush you. You should also pay attention for a combat queue in the upper right corner, it will give you a hint on the type of enemy. If it's a zombie or a dog get ready to melee, if its a coyote or militia you better be ready for a gun fight just in case.

If it doesn't fit your RP mind set, consider this: you don't YOLO into a room, first you sniff around and listen to the very loose snorts and growls trying to figure out if it's clear or not.
You should abuse this technique as much as possible if you want to succeed on hardcore.
Toatal morale: 239
Constructions: Greenhouse (12 hrs), Watchtower (a lot of hrs)
Activities: still building those glock's
Pardon me i missed one important thing yesterday, Elane became cooperative and you were to choose her perk. I went with +morale "we'll find more people ... bla bla". Unlike Jenifer, Elane does not required to fill the hospitality role to get her perk going, and every morale help is welcome.
Vic showed up today, and he is very welcome. He is the best ranged fighter out there. And personally i like this cop a lot, he is my favorite npc. Something about him resonates with me, so we are always best friends during the playthrough. If you have high enough negotiation (i have 6 since day3) you can make through his first dialogue in a smart way so he wont be angry about you running the place.
Hit Alamo way. And go back to shelter to drop all stuff.
Hit Bison street. Just clear out all the zombies around first, then hit the looters house. And go back to shelter to drop stuff.
Hit Bullseye store. A lot of zombies there. On the way back i revisited Brady and took all what's left there.
You actually want to keep track of how much luxuries and food you are stocking during the day. After Alamo i stocked up about a 100 worth of luxuries which covers my daily need. So every luxury i found later this day i stashed in the trasher for later use.
I also maxed out my ranged skill, and still have some skillpoints left for emergency situations.
