I'm stuck in a basement
In the renovated farm west of the shelter, that Aimee tells you about. I went down, fought the looters and killed them, but now when I click the stairs I can't go back up. I've tried with all my characters, with party follow on and off, etc. When I try using the stairs in combat, it consumes 4 ap as if I moved up the stairs, but I stay in place. Here's a screen shot of the basement in question:

Any tips here? I'll probably wind up reloading my hard save before I left the shelter, but I'd rather not get stuck down there again.

*EDIT* The can't move to target spam in the combat log is from the looter on the bottom right. The way she died, I need to move right next to her to loot her.

Turn party follow off, move everyone away from the stairs, move one person right to the base of the stairs, click on the stairs with that person still right at the base of them.

If it still doesn't work, please provide a save.

I wound up reloading an older save and going elsewhere, BUT I did make a separate hard save at the bugged area just in case you'd say something like this.

I tried what you said, step by step, and I still couldn't go up. So, two questions:
1. Where is my save located?
2. Where should I send my save?

And thanks for your time.

I can confirm this bug. I'm stuck in the basement as well, and the above solution doesnt work.

Is it the same location you both have issues with?

The only times I've been unable to use stairs and had it still consume 4 AP in combat is when the place to stand at the other end of the stairs was blocked (either by party members, NPCs or zombies). It's possible the renovated farmhouse has an issue due to object/container placement but I had no problems there myself.

I did some checking and what you say is possible. When I press space I can see that there is at least one more zombie on the map, so it could be that it's at the top of the stairs blocking my exit. I tried throwing a noisemaker down to see if it would lure it but nothing came. But since my whole group is in the basement, I have no way of saying for sure if that is the issue or not.

Can you provide the save?

Yes, but I'm still not sure where my save is located or how to provide it, i.e. if I'm supposed to email it, and to what address.

I had the same problem in the same location and it turned out to be a zombie at the top of the stairs blocking me. Luckily, I had a firecracker in my inventory throwing it did lure the zombie down. I did throw it directly at the base of the stairs and the zombie then appeared in that exact square. Once it was defeated I was able to leave.

@jercrow, good to know, thanks for the info.

If this happens to anyone and they do not have a noise maker, they can do this. initiate combat, move a character with a firearm far enough away from another ally to get a "0%" to hit chance and fire a shot. The noise should draw the zombie down.

@makoto Save games are in C:\Users\<username>\Documents\My Games\Dead State. You would need to upload it to a host site or make an account on the official forum site and post it in a thread there. However since it was most likely a zombie at the top of the stairs we probably don't need to worry about it.

Gotcha. Thanks for the info, I'll remember that in case I encounter any issues that I'm sure are bugs.

Thank you so much! This solution worked for me. I didn't have any noisemakers but I had a sawed off shotgun, so I stood Max (like no range skill) as far away until his hit % was 0, then i had him shoot at one of my other characters until the zombie came down.

I wonder if this same problem will occur anywhere else? I think the zombie at the top of the stairs was spawned by the gunfire from the fight with the looters down in the basement.

I am stuck in the exact same spot. I have made as much noise I can (I only get up to 100 DB before it caps). No zombies come down the stairs. I have tried every solution I've been able to find on the board. Nothing works.

Did you report this on the official forum? I just helped someone there. It turns out there was a Zombie at the top of the stairs that refused to move no matter how much noise was made
I had to kill it with a console command.

Same issue; noise wasn't a solution... had to load an old save ( and the game crashed, again )... The game seems to have a major memory leak as it slows down the longer you leave it open until it crashes but it only seems to crash when sleeping, loading / saving, moving to a new area or interacting with anything...
