Custom portrait for my Main Character
Anybody know of an online site where I could take a real photo of myself and get it rendered in a way that more fits the style of the other portraits in the game? I'm really bad at doing graphics design myself but if anyone could point me towards an article that might help me do this on my own using something like Paint.net that would be appreciated as well. Thanks.

Hey Mate

What I did is get a photo from an iPhone that I was happy with, put it on my computer, then use a photo editor to match the dimensions 315x295 or whatever it was ..

Once you have an image matching the dimensions, you could visit a site like Cartoonise (I think it's www.cartoonise.net but just google cartoonise). Site will take an image and apply different formats of cartoonisations to it.

I would up with a picture that wasn't too dramatically different to the world that it messed with my immersion, and got the benefit of feeling directly personally involved in the survival struggle.

What I'd like to see is a bunch of people submit photos matching the in-game pictures .. like .. latino guy with beard, balding ranga, etc .. and get them cartoonised so you can have quasi-cartoonish-photoish portraits in-game instead of the transexual drawings.

The gender ambiguity of the drawn pictures was my only major gripe with the game.
If you're ok with doing some photoshop work, you can make something like this out of existing portraits. I merged 3 portraits and get this  http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=360880837

Yeah I ended up just merging certain features from different portraits together.

To DoubleBear - What is with these portraits? Why are the facial features so gender-ambiguous on them? If some of these male portraits didn't have facial hair I would swear they were female. Couldn't we have some portraits that are more gender specific?

Did you guys just cut and paste the pieces you wanted? The idea makes me consider making a post asking for people to dissect the potraits (I'd help as best i could, myself) and then just post a photoshop image somewhere for people to download and mix-n-match their survivor portraits.

Yeah, thats what I did. I used Paint.net to make my frankenstein portrait. If you look close you can see the imperfections but after its imported its hardly noticeable and I think it looks better than any of the defaults.

I wonder if the devs have a plan to create a customizer where they have different types of nose, eyes, hair styles, etc. So everyone can make their own unique portrait. Any of the mods or devs reading this know if this is a possible future feature?

Honestly... with the right amount of time and dedication (and skill) it wouldn't be hard to create the layers needed to do such a thing. However, if they were going for a more polished version, they would need to have each feature drawn separately, which means more money spent on rehiring the graphic artist who did that (if still not working with DB).

where did you guys find the potraits to make your frankenstein creations? I've been all through the Steam folder for DS and I cant find them anywhere.

I think his instructions have become obsolete now that you can upload a picture through the game's menu, haven't they? His post is from before this option was available.

Yes it is, but the 'gui.aod' also contains the game portraits too which i think is what he wants? :)

Thanks Cosmo! That's exactly what I was looking for! I wanted to get the game's actual portraits so that I could create my own!
