There's no way to drop items directly from the inventory, you'll have to leave them behind in an existing container/body.

I hope you like interface problems that were inexcusable decades ago friend.

There is nothing lame or inexcusable going on here. The only real reason there is to drop something is to make room to pick up something else. Both of those things happen on the same interface. You can put things into the very container/body that has something else you'd rather carry.

Keep in mind here are no combat or movement penalties for weight carried. So whenever possible, load yourself down and take everything back to the shelter. Once you build a recycler, you'll find use for it.

EXCEPT for things used to build shelter upgrades. One cement bag, toolbox, welding rig, etc. is plenty and the recycler won't take them.

...hauling back more than one of those is a wasted trip.

... so why would you pick them up in the first place then? You don't have to try and grab everything on the map just cause its there. I always leave rats and bowls of insects behind. Same thing goes for redundant items I couldn't recycle and have no use for. Why don't you just use some common sense if this bothers you and it won't be an issue anymore.

Or they could let you right click to drop things, a function that has existed in crpgs for what seems like time immemorial at this point that is also much faster than having to find a container to then transfer into every piece of crap you don't even care about recycling.

Also dont even get me started on recycling, a broken concept that seems to exist only to help excuse a sloppy interface.

If you're playing the game for the first time where does it tell you you will never ever need another bag of cement (or other "special" item) ever again and that, even though there are surely like a double digit amout of bags of cement placed in the game, they have no use at all after the first one and will just sit in a container somewhere forever because you can't even just drop them (owned by a noob trap if you wasted inventory space and time dragging them back to the shelter).

I want to note that Age of Decadence, which uses the same ♥♥♥♥♥♥ engine and is being made by some of the same people, lets you drop items and even made the effort to fix a bug where you could only sell or drop certain items in units of ten. I suspect the even more hacked to pieces version of the engine this game is using is just too ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up to support such a basic thing.

Um, I don't. I'm just saying don't bother bringing back more than one? I'm not complaining, I'm just pointing out you can't recycle those things so, for those, don't "load yourself down and take everything back to the shelter".

Bugs and rats I take back and they can eat. Morale is high enough that I can live with the hit and they add to the food goal. I have no idea why people have some aversion to pixel bugs and rats being added to imaginary people's diets and don't bat an eye at the automatically stocked dog food. You ever look in a can of the cheap stuff? I'd rather eat bugs.
