Equiping NPCs at the shelter
does it matter at all if you arm and armor NPCs at the shelter who never leave the shelter? Does that make the shelters overall strength higher? will that matter at all in game plan. (will there ever be looters attacking inside the shelter).

to me, if there are 30 people armed to the teeth and armored up, it becomes an extremely difficult place to attack and capture.

Simple answer is no. You need only arm or equip the 3 people that go out to fight with the player.

For the most part, no. Like Ghostbag said, you only need to equip your active party.

However...

For one of the endings, you can have up to 11 allies fighting alongside you, so it's highly suggested you equip your combat-worthy allies before then! ;)

Would be nice if better equipped guards were more effective.

I tend to equip everyone in the shelter with riding leathers, combat boots, combat knife and either a 9mm pistol or a .38 lever action rifle. Helps clear up the item list.

i use the recycler to clear up the inventory

My inner hoarder prevents me from liberal use of the recycler.

I made the mistake of recycling base leather armors once I could make reenforced riding leathers. Only to find out I needed them to craft even higher level armors. :p

Anyone heard if boots, gloves and masks will be craftable at release?

Don't think so. Though one trip to Lampasas Shelter should give you all the combat boots you'll ever need. War on the Coyotes results in lots of Motorcycle Helmets.

Would be nice to be able to make leather gloves from leather jackets. Or a lightweight metal&leather cap alternative to the chainmail helmet.

Only stuff I recycle is 2x4 board weapons, makeshift pike, all but 1 of the wrench, screwdriver, kitchen knife, butcher knife. (I put one of each in Davis' inventory just in case they might be needed for plot or shelter upgrade reasons)

Good idea I never thought to use Davis's inventory to keep needed spares in that will simplify recycling for me in the future!

Yeah, started doing that when I found out I needed a pipe wrench to build the garage upgrade (or was it fixing the car). Either way, davis now carries 1 of every weapon and tool in his wheelchair.
