how do we sneak up behide zeds now ?
ok so in the past i used to prefer to run to / sneak up to the back of the zombie to get the first hit in on them.

i've noticed that im unable to get sneak attacks in now :S

or is there some requirement i need to get close enough to the deadheads now ?
and also am i able to sneak up on the living still ?

It was made much more difficult, since it was formerly way too easy to clear entire maps by sneaking up on zombies. It's still possible, but you have to run at them at an angle, and be very quick about starting combat before they do. You can also draw them to you with noise, by walking in front of them at a distance, or shooting them with a ranged weapon.

i guess that can be cool,,,,, harder :P but cooler XD

guess ill have to fiddle around for a while to work out best way to take em XD

altho im not looking forward to it :P,
i guess ill be using firecrackers more often xD

(lets hope my hits actually connect enough before i get swarmed) XD

will the zeds ignore me if i throw a firecracker ?
if they target me will the completly ignore the crackers?

also
does the same tactic work on the living ? or can i still sneak up on them the old way
(lol its gonna be a HELL of a lot hardler dealing with the mercs in the shopping mail if i cant XD)

Human enemies are using much smarter AI now, so sneaking up on them will be tough! Approaching a human enemy from the front will get you detected very quickly, and most of them will notice you once you get to within five or six squares of their back. Noisemakers are a great way to get them to group up, but not all humans will fall for that so watch out. If you want to get the first hit in on human characters, your best bet is to use ranged weapons from a few squares out or start combat several squares away and close the distance to use a melee attack.

For all enemies, if they've already got you (or another NPC) targeted, they will ignore noise happening elsewhere. A good tactic is to turn off party following, have your character with the firecracker or noisemaker move to the edge of the enemy area, throw it as far as you can, and then run like crazy! The enemies will bunch up around the noise, and you can move in to take them out however you'd like.

oh god... sounds like its gonna be a lot harder then it used to me XD

dont get me wrong thats a good thing,,
altho i sort of prefered the old way XD

some of the maps had more then enough zombies in it that you would get swarmed pretty quick, combat gets a pain once theres at least 5+ zombies in the combat range,
(unless you had molotovs to control how you want them coming at you)

used to bunch them up together using the noise makers XD and then spam molotovs at them XD

even back in the day, the hotel grant talks about was a pain in the backside XD
30+ zombies :o

<edit>
ok... so... im most likely going to get a lot of hate and people trolling me for this,
but out of curiousity would there be any chance that in the next update / future update?
you'd add an opinion to make the zeds and the living difficulty level weaker, or using the older AI system ? (making sneaking easier so such?)

just wondering because currently only got the "PC infectable" turned on,
and the zeds are mostly only a pain in the ass because of being unable to sneak up on them,
(maybe the humans too), and the hit-rate being a pain in the backside to actually hit (even with 75% chance to hit.

early in the game you ideally need to hit as often as possible :<
as best weapon you have is a bat XD

as for ranged combat to lure them to me....
im not looking forward to it due to the noise level that can lure more to the map area lol

Play on hardcore mode...its TOUGH! Not for some, but MUCH tougher than normal.

How to sneak up on and pull a zombie:
Hit them in the back of the head with a bolt/arrow. :P

In early game though ever since Reanimation I've just taken to approaching them from the front instead. They have about 9 AP's and do the 'Beeline to nearest Human to attack' as their AI.
Positioning accordingly and/or using noise to draw them out of buildings is the best bet.
Cripple/Knockdown toggle attack modes makes for easy Undead melee fighting also.

YEP..approach from the from. Some people try running up and then hit SPACE bar to activate attack, but that's risky ESPECIALLY in the first stages of the game.

i wish they did only have 9 AP XD

they seem to always walk like 5+ squares to me, and still have enough to take a swing at me and try to grab me :'<

as for knockdown, cripple and
they are my fav attack styles :P
Stoibs Jun 17, 2015 @ 7:40pm
According to what I've seen other people say, their swing is 4AP and the grab/bite is 5AP

Freshly killed and risen Undead certainly seem to have better stats and more AP however.

Approach about 4-5 tiles behind them, start combat, move and attack.

just a shame 50% of the time,
the first strikes almost always miss :<

3 to 4 ap to get close to the zed, 5 to 6 to attack

This means either two things. First, that you should be able to kill a zed with two blows from a baseball bat with 10AP high melee character (like Vic) - 2AP to move up to them, 4+4AP to kill them. Which is very unlikely early on or impossible for someone who (1) doesn't have 10AP character with (2) high melee skill and (3) a good weapon that has 4AP attack.

Second, if you fail, and 95% of times you will, it means you have just offered up your face as a zed dinner.

Instead of doing that, move your party up to a zed FROM THE FRONT. They have a view range of 7 squares, which means once the game goes to combat mode and they walk up to you, they will run out of moves to attack you and will stand there like dummies. From here on attack them first with a sledgehammer to knock them down and then with baseball bats to finish them off. Easy peasy.

The utterly stupid thing is that in reality you WOULD approach a zed from behind - in this game it is now more safe to approach it from the front.

What I would want to see is a PROPER sneak mechanic and skill - that accounts your agility and the distance to a zed and ACTUALLY REQUIRES YOU TO SNEAK (like in a real case of zapocalypse).

With each square you sneak closer to a zed from behind, the higher the percentage for zed to notice you becomes. The higher your agility, the lower the percentages are, and the better you are at staying unnoticed. Wearing heavy armor would penalize your sneak skill and make it easier for zeds to notice you (should I wear more armor and risk getting noticed or should I disregard armor and risk getting my face chewed off???). But there is always a small chance that a zed will notice even the best character with highest agility and sneak.

But so far this perfect zombie RPG only exists in my head. So instead of implementing something like that, I'm looking forward to devs now lowering the zed view range to six squares or lower.

@VatDeez
"they will run out of moves to attack you"

hopefully they will run out of AP ;)

there was a game that took the armor you was wearing into account when you sneak...
only prob i forgot which it was

my first choice would be the fallout universe games (1,2,tactics, 3 and new vegas)
2nd would be skyrim..
i think there is more but i cant remember Xd
(problem about having 300+ games XD some games feel the same some dont XD)
