Massive frame rate drop while moving.
I had no problems with the game up until the third day when I went hunting for food.
At first it was like normal but then out of nowhere framerate went from 75 to maybe 6. Like watching a slide show. But ONLY when I move. Looking around with the camera and standing still its perfectly smooth.

I never changed anything in the settings before this happend. I have tinkered with different settings now without any results. Anyone had similar problems and maybe know a fix?

If you exit the game and restart is the problem still there?
Aanorith Mar 2, 2014 @ 7:04am
Yes. The only thing I haven't tried in my limited experience of fixing things, would be a reinstall.

That is strange. If a restart fixed it, that would point to a memory leak, but this is odd. Is it always the same map, or different ones? You stated you played with settings, I assume you have used auto-detect to set the video settings? Do you have the newest driver for your video card installed?

Question, if you don't reinstall and instead just start a new game, how is it?

When I first started the game the only thing I changed was the resolution. Is it auto detected by default? I started a new game and the problem remains. Extreem choppyness while moving. Camera and character movement becomes sluggish.

Will try a reinstall next.

The reinstall did not help. I tinkered some more with the settings, the auto detect sets everything to the lowest, so I bumped it up a notch and enabled all the checked ghraphics options. Right now its working again but I am still suscpicious hehe.

That could be your problem, bumping things above what the autodetect set. It might work on some areas but the busier ones might cause problems. I have a decent vid card and I have antialiasing and anisotropic filtering off, plus SSAO, HRD and Verticle Sync unchecked.

Well let me know how things go.

I just bought the game and experience the same problem : FPS drops down to ~15 from 150+ when i move.
It actually happens when I try to change Lighting quality from Custom (wtf? there's no such item in the drop-down list!) to any other, even lowest.

Yeah thats a problem I have had since the first beta patch with the game. For me it happens when I change the lighting quality to lowest. If I set lighting quality to anything else than lowest I don't get the fps drops while moving. I hope this will be fixed someday. Running the game on lowest graphic details shouldn't decrease the performance.

Also keep in mind larger the movement is more frame drops. if i go alone it is fine 2 people fine 3 is getting little slower 4 is getting slower then if dozens of zombies want to move it is a stop motion game for me.

Make sure the game is using your vid card and not the onboard one. If using windows 8, play in win 7 compatibility mode.

I am sure, I use descrete graphics.
And the problem is not 'on my side' since when i'm not running, fps is high. It's definetly the game's bug.

Game has issues with laptop cards because you are not the first one report this kind of thing

Make sure SSAO and HDR are off. Currently some maps will reenable them. Will be fixed in the next patch.
