Survival in the world of Dead State is harsh as I have found out myself. And its not going to get any better. You will need to constantly update your weapons and armor, take necessary precautions and pray. A lot. Dead State as so previously mentioned is a dark game in general, but you'll learn yourself that certain tactics can be used. For example, when Davis asks you to go to the Brady Pharmacy you will encounter looters. Sound will be your excellent ally, however I am not going to say a lot. The undead can also be your ally for taking out the Coyotes HQ. They can do damage and sometimes even kill your enemies if used quickly and effectively. Medical kits and adrenaline shots are excellent ways in which to revive yourself and/or allies in need of help. Anita is most preferable, as she has a high med skill. The game will eventually spoil your need of food and send you to the hardest of homes to get some which raises the question. Will you encounter other humans? The answer is yes.
Yes-f*cking yes in the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ you will.
Most humans you encounter will want to kill you on site. (Survivors that can be allied with will be talked about in the 'Shelter' topic.) Everything from looters, to as mentioned Coyotes to rogue militia. Most of which are hard to take down, but you wont encounter too early on in the game. Most of the mentioned above do handle ranged weapons, meaning that they are a tiny bit harder to take down. Now, don't let me words scare you. Just because I said a lot of scary things about how fellow survivors are hard to kill, (I don't know if I mentioned the wild dogs? Have fun with them!) dosent mean you have to assume that every location/s have murderers on them. Although that's a pretty safe assumption itself. However, the undead are a entirely different type of force.
The undead are pretty harmless within themselves, often proving to be a nuisance mainly in groups. They are easy to take, only requiring two hits from Anita's baseball bat to destroy them. As previously discussed the undead can be a major pain in the ass in groups, but whose to say that they can be your ally too?
The undead are willing to follow orders. Orders of sound that is. They will go anywhere that there is sound, oftenly gunshots or 'noise makers'. However, upon using sound as your ally, it can be a hinderence. Survivors with guns can be just as deadly as the survivors themselves. You might think that theres only a finite amount of infected on a location, but you are dead wrong. Or rather, you were wrong and they are dead. In the top left corner is a counter. That is a decibel counter. (Now that I mention it, dont use ranged weapons on the undead. Its just not worth it.) Each time that counter gets over 100 decibels more undead will spawn on the edges on the map and move to the source of the noise. <----- Quote the hint screen.
All in all, most of the AI in this game are plain evil and want to kill you on sight. But what about those that are, how do I put this delicately. Friendly?
The shelter (A school in Splendid) is your base of operations and the building that you will call home. In the shelter, you will be faced with challenges. Some more crucial than the ones you face in the outside world. You will have to deal with crisis events, fellow survivors and the threat of an uprising by some if morale dips too low. In the start of the game, having low morale is normal. Y'know, the end of the world and what not. But over the course of the game, more should be pretty high. My highest was 3788. See if you can do better.
In the amount of days you spend in your shelter, you will find other survivors. Not looters, or rogue militia as previously mentioned, but survivors that can be recuited and stay at your shelter. One of the first survivors you encounter will be Max Getz, whom will be called Getz. He'll tell you his backstory with a high enough mood. And what rhymes with mood? Food.
Food in your shelter is an absolute must, as it contributes to you not losing -200 morale (The same as having a broken fence) every day. Each survivor consumes 3 pounds of food every 24 hours. Which means not making the same mistake that I did my first go at Dead State. Recruiting too many people at once. Towards the end game, try to save as many people as possible. However, it will get progressively harder to do so, as allies will die if not recruited.
Fuel is another major factor in keeping your shelter fine and dandy. Well, fine in this matter. Fuel will contribute to -50 every day without it. So along with food, comes fuel.
(To be finished)
