Nvidia or AMD?

Try looking into your graphics card settings and setting up parameters JUST for this game's execution file ONLY.........NOT global settings.

Back when I was a mod for this forum I got really good at troubleshooting steam version of the game but gog not so much. My guess would be you are trying to use an unsupported resolution perhaps and it is having issues.

Go into options and make sure you select a resolution that is supported by your vid card. If you have an issue doing that you can modify the file directly.

Try this: Try modifying the pref.cs in
Documents/My Games/Dead State.
Change the $pref::Video::mode line to
$pref::Video::mode = "1024 768 true 32 60 0";

Running in win 7 compatability mode and using the steam experimental build generally fixes a lot of issues on win 10 but the build isn't on gog i don't think.

Also turn off any vid card overclocking and on laptops it sometimes defaults to the built in card. You can go into the nvidia control panel and look for zrpg.exe and set which vid card to use. I'll try and recall anything else I think might help
Resurrecting this thread for the sake of Google to say that the #1 cause of this issue for me was transferring my entire saves folder (which also contains the graphics prefs file) from another machine. Deleting the `prefs.cs` file from `Documents\My Games\Dead State` fixed it.

you're lucky. I hit play from steam and is says running, then just dumps and doesn't load a thing saying Play again
