Text-based Game Company

I'm consider starting a text-based game company in GDT and was wondering, how much of an influence would "graphics" be for a text-based game? That's to say, could I safely ignore graphics, since the game is, you know, text based?

No, graphics involve more than just 2d/3d stuff. Think about the GUI and whatnot.


Also, it's all about what genre you choose whether or not you put a lot of time into graphics. Choosing text/2d/3d makes no difference.

most of my text games did decent sells 5 to 7 scores
did primarly text medium graphics/sounds
think it is also based around what type of game you choose to make

I like to do early text adventure and RPG games. However multiplayer was a big part of these games which isn't reflected in game dev tycoon. Text games were the first to feature multiplayer and there should be a text upgrade to Ansi graphics or something.

GDT graphics are tech-level-based. Aka as consoles support new tech levels and the average tech level goes up, you are expected to increase graphical tech level. 2D's final version are up at tech level 4 I think, whilst 3D V7 is the final tech (tech 8 iirc)

Again, the development stages have nothing to do with text vs 2d/3d. The developement stages only relate to what genre you choose.

Oh of course, the actual development isn't to do with graphic choice, but ratings and success will heavily depend on graphics. You can be a tech-level behind, but anymore and you'll see crippled ratings (Which is a bit unfair imo)
