Exception Guides for Anti Virus Suites

Your Antivirus is most likely deleting game files.
We had several reports of this in the past and so far all occurrences were due to a false positive , which is when anti-virus software flags something by mistake. There are no known occurrences of any viruses or malware in the game files, if the game was downloaded from our Store.

If a warning occurs please let us know and, if you can, please report it to your AV programs manufacturer.

To temporarily work around such an issue you can exclude the game from your AV program or disable AV temporarily (disconnect from the internet). Please do so at your own risk.


Please be aware that after adding the exception you need to validate the game files to restore any that the AV deleted.

i did it with norton but i not helps and i can play the demo game but not the game on steam that i have buyed :S how

I have updated the Norton to a more modern guide + video. Some AV Suites have several areas which you have to add exclusions to all parts for.

Also added McAfee Firewall + AV

Validate game files? Couldn't I just reinstall the game, would that work?

EDIT: Nevermind it was way easier than I thought it would be :p

Yes reinstall works, though validating game files is easy and a good thing to learn to do for all your games.

Still doesn't work :/ I have validated the game files and make the exclusion but it still doesn't work :/

I use Comodo and don't have any problems besides it constantly nagging me about running your game in Sandbox mode because you haven't digitally signed your product.
Don't know anything about that whole process but it seems like an easy fix for you guys.

I wouldnt switch off or disable my anti-virus for any app game or programme, this is just a shabby workaround. Hows about a ingame fix without compromises. Thanks

"Bitdefender Total Security 2013" classifies the .exe as a Virus.

Definitely got that right! I was missing loads of textures for Portal 2 and validating files took 20 minutes instead of a reinstall time of 8 hours!

Same for me! Thanks for giving me the tip that it's possible to play through steamapps :3 Now I can at least play it!
