You will also have to have the right genres in combination with the right system for that genre. Mixed genres each have their own separate needs than the parts they come from, so that's more research.
Your engine should also be up to date, although I would argue not to go crazy developing graphics. I once had PS5/XBone era graphics in N64 pre Playstation era. Development costs were crazy, and the graphics hogged my systems. I bombed.
On top of that, you want the right age audience for both the genre and the system being developed.
Having more productive employees (and self) also seems to help.
