I think it is like rolling a dice. The game randomly chooses score based on whatever number the die lands on. I really have never figured out what or how the game cacualtes score. I just know it is rand as f*uck.

Edit

I have had excellant games have with score far higher than yours get 5/5/5/5 and yet and games in the opening scene get a score 10/10/10/9.

@mab it depends heavily on your score history. If you don't improve for tech/design points enough over your previous game, you'll score badly.

In 20 something hours of gameplay I've had perfect 10's maybe 2-3 times, and heaps of 9.75's. I'm not really sure exactly what you have to do to get that last 0.25, but it seems to be the most difficult thing to do in the game. It's massively satisfying when you get it, just stick to it is all I can suggest.

I desgined a 10 million dollar engine before with V8 graphics and al the lastest tech. I got a 5/5/5/5 on my AAA multI platform game which was based off a sequal which made 9.75. It took two years to desgin that game and I lost the playthough as a result.

I know that you must improve your Tech+Design more than %20 for that. But my previous game was 2100 totally. The game after this had 3200 total points. The critics are *ssholes simply
it's luck

EDIT: just noticed necrobump

No joke, I cranked all the sliders to the absolute lowest and then just raised the "+++" up by four ticks and the "++" by three and left the last one at minimum. Did this for all three stages of the game's development and it got me a perfect 10.

I got the perfect score too.
1) Topic and Genre combination must tend to perfect (+++)
2) Topic and Audience combination must tend to perfect (+++)
3) Genre and System combination must tend to perfect (+++)
4) System and Audience combination must tend to perfect (+++)
5) Sliders must match Genre as close as possible
6) Staff must match the Genre you choose. If you want to make a perfect RPG, Design will be more important than Technology. So it's better to have more staff with high stats in Design. Your staff is always working on the game even if you don't put them in charge.
6) New feature than the last game give an extra. (Don't add all new features of your engine at one time but add one more at each new game ==> you get better scoring for each new game)
7) When game score is hanging or dropping slightly ==> It means the technology of your engine become obsolete ==> New graphic engine is needed to hit the top score.
8) You can't have a perfect 10/10 if you didn't make a new record in Design and/or Technology. ==> Train your staff before building a new game that you want to be perfect.

9) A bit of luck. Sometimes, your staff will make bigger bubbles than normal and you don't know why :)

Also there is the possibility to have 11/10 review score.

All very good tips... but this one is the most important I think. It's not very hard to get 9.5 or 9.75 if you do all of those things, but sometimes you can do everything perfect and still not get a 10.

I just checked my achievments and as it turns out I have scored 11/10 at some point, I don't remember it though lol.

Another thing I noticed was not to try to add everything my engine was capable of if the total percentage became less than 100. On one game, I tried to squeeze in every feature possible and got 5's and 6's. The next game I decided to limit those and do a couple of things really well. It paid off and I got 10's across the board. Also, all of those other factors listed above need to be taken into consideration.

I just got one around year 5 or so. Surprised me.
