Occasional Screen Blink
Not sure what is causing this but occasionally the screen will blink in game either full screen or windowed mode.

Not had issues in past games or current games. I have disabled the steam overlay and tried 2 AMD drivers. Currently on the very latest.

Spec
asus z170-k
i7 6700
amd r9 270 gpu
win7 64 bit
Firefox 64 bit Browser

(Chrome browser not installed)

System is a fairly clean install since I run linux as my primary OS but use win7 for a few games that is all. Everything is update date.

I read that this game uses the chrome browser core / engine (nw.exe nw.js) so could that be the issue ? Any suggestions. This is a great game but the odd flicker is very annoying. Is nw still using an outdated version of chromium which might have this bug fixed ?

Hi there,

We're sorry about this trouble with Game Dev Tycoon!

I've sent this to the team so they can help figure out what exactly is causing the screen flickering. If possible, allow us a bit of time to look into this before we get back to you.

Thanks!

I'll do some more tests full screen and windowed. Steam overlay is disabled and that does seem to help quite a bit and reduce the frequeny of occuring. The screen issue is more of a flick / slight jump and might not happen for several minutes.

I'll run focus.exe to see if anything is stealing focus and have set the amd drivers to force vsync and play with those settings.

Love the game and good tycoon games are so rare these days. I wish I bought it direct now so I could have tested it under linux and still got a steam key.

Update. Ok nothing steals focus. The first jump occured after about 10 minutes play in windowed mode and the entire screen contents of the window jumpped / blinked so it does seem to be the game / engine. The 2nd jump occured about 30 minutes later.

UPDATE 2 : It happens so fast but I am sure the entire screen jumps even if the game is windowed. The more I read into this I think it is a chrome issue with esp amd drivers. I have seen advise of turning off hardware acceleration in the browser itself. I think firefox had a similar problem sometime back with the same advise of HW accel.

No issues when the game is not running.

Thanks for those extra details!

I'm going to send them over right away, in case they help us understand this situation better.

We appreciate how much care and time you've poured looking into this.

Will test the new amd drivers Crimson Edition 16.6.1 Hotfix drivers released today on the 6th june. The changelog states a fix for a screen jumping issue in web browsers so I am sure this is the AMD jumping screen fault I have been seeing in this game.

Hi DMS,

I'm sorry for the lack of updates, but unfortunately, this seems like a tough nut to crack. Do let us now if those drivers fixed it or if the issue still persists!

Sadly still persists in this game with the new drivers. No worries. I think its a amd / chrome engine issue.
