Installing Workshop Mods
Step 1: Subscribe to the mod.
Step 2: Open Game Dev Tycoon
Step 3: Open the Main Menu, either press ESC or click the icon in the bottom left.
Step 4: Click the "Mods" button.
Step 5: You'll see all the mods listed in this panel. Click on the ones you want to activate (They will turn blue.)
Step 6: Restart the game.
Step 7: Done!

Mod Colours:
Red - Missing Dependency (Most likely the UltimateLib)
Blue - Mod is enabled

Edit: As posted below.

This guide still works and mods that worked before like UltimateLib etc still work.
I can see some of you are still having issues though so please send us an email at support@greenheartgames.com

Include your operating system, the install location of Game Dev Tycoon, what mods you are trying to install and describe what happens when you install the mods. Plus anything else you think might be helpful.

Mods still work if you install them from a third party mod site and put them in the mod folder yourself. I downloaded some and installed them the old fashioned way and they show up.

Ok bit of a work around.

For me the game was not installing the mods correctly. Id subscribe but they would not appear in the game as an option (older already installed mods were).

A work around is to go to your GDT folder (program files(x86)\steam\steamapps\common\Game Dev Tycoon\) and into the mods_ws folder. This contains mods installed and available in game.

Open another explorer window and go to the GDT folder and into the ugc folder. This should contain zip files of the mods you have subscribed to.
Extract those that you want and are not in the other folder, here.
Next if you notice the folders in the mods_ws folder have numbers, the ones you just extracted do not. Rename the mods using the numbers on the zip file (so zip and folder names match).
Copy the folders from ugc to mods_ws and start the game.

Not all mods will work this way I had 2 out of 3 work after doing this. The other is an older mod and may not be working. If they dont work the game automatically deletes the folder from mods_ws.

Working mods will now be selectable via the mod menu.

How can I install a mod if I don't have the ultimate lib file? Thanks

With me the mod is displayed in the game but not in the workshop and the MoD is from the manufacturers of the game

i thought ultimate lib no longer works being it hasnrt been updated with the game... seen ultimate has been out dated a few years now... and had a ton of mods that needed it that were in red

I literally just bought the game the other day. I subscribed to a couple of mods, including the new UI overhaul mod that was promoted on the store page. When launching the game, I get an error pop-up that says that there's no mod folder! The file path doesn't exist! I went into the game files, and lo and behold, the "mods_ws" folder it was asking about was nowhere to be found; only a "mods" folder. I made a copy of said folder and renamed it "mods_ws", which then allowed me to see the basic mod API that the game comes with by default, but none of the other mods are present.

I attempted to un-and-re-subscribe to all the mods and restarted the game - no change. My mods will not download - even though Steam insists that Workshop content has been downloaded.

What am I doing wrong here?
Same problem the game was fine yesterday, and to day nothing is working, tried to uninstall and same things, dunno why. ;(
