think of Adventure games as the OLD point and click type

It just said, adventure/wild west bad combination. I could only pick one topic at the time, so I went for adventure. And that is the most obvious choice. Adventure should not only be for point and click games. And I selected 'open world'.

An adventure game isn't necessarily a point-and-click, but it's generally devoid of true "action". It tends to focus more on telling a story, and less on having interesting action. An "adventure wild west" game wouldn't have things like shoot-outs, except as part of cut-scenes or at most some quick-time events.

As you can tell, it'd make for a bad combination. If you're about to play a Wild West, you want to do some shooting, get some action, not go through a long and intricate storyline.

No but adventure has action too. And everything about the theme Wild West IS ADVENTURE.

Y'all need familiarize yourselves with Gold Rush (Sierra, 1988) and Freddy Pharkas: Frontier Pharmacist (Sierra, 1993). Those are Adventure/Wild West games.

Although to be honest, Freddy Pharkas was Adventure/Wild West-Comedy.

And as for whether it's a good combo, those titles were generally liked but did not sell nearly as well as Sierra's blockbuster titles like the King's Quest and Quest for Glory series.

Adventure games would be a lot like the Tell Tale games.
