Path to Free Content Update (v1.6)
To celebrate the arrival of Game Dev Tycoon on mobiles and tablets[www.greenheartgames.com] we are working on a free content update for the PC version.

The update will go live a few weeks after the Android version releases (which is scheduled for January 2018). In the meantime we will gradually implement the new features and make them available via a Steam Beta branch.

We've just pushed the first Beta version and will keep this post updated to reflect currently implemented features.

Running list on changes on the Beta:

✅ New: super-difficult 'pirate' game mode including new piracy, DRM and company ownership game mechanics. :antipiracy:
✅ New: Added Ninvento Swap console and 100% more mentioning of denatonium benzoate in the game.
✅ New: Added new modern PC image.
✅ New: UI panels have now a kinetic drag behaviour.
✅ New: Modders can now make use of features from the greensocks GSAP[greensock.com] animation library.
✅ Improved: Removed UI selection outline from slider handle.
✅ Improved: Added visual clue when there are not enough research points to start a research project.
✅ Improved: Small story window is now slightly wider.
✅ Fixed: When stories picked team members, often the first staff got picked.

New topics will come next and after that (probably next year) we'll port UI changes such as the new topic and genre icons. As a final step we'll update all translation to match.

If you want to give this version a try:
1. Right-click on the game in your library.
2. Click on Properties and then Betas.
3. Select 'Beta' from the dropdown list.
4. Restart your Steam client (in case it doesn't update).

also, you do NOT need to restart your steam client.

Thanks, updated. for me it works sometimes without and sometimes I need to restart so I left it just to be sure.

Welp.. Got backrupt within the first two years. :I
The difficulty warning wasn't wrong.

In my own humble opinion though, 90% piracy for my 2nd game seems a bit harsh.

True.

But sell stocks or whatever it was, then get DRM. I managed to get past garage so far.

@greenheart games Are you cool with people streaming the beta? It did have some freezes when I tried it out yesterday, but other than that it works like a charm and the piracy mode is even better than I dared hope <3

I've some freezes from time to time, requiring me to restart the game ( menus and all still work, but game is like paused, nothing happens)

I think that if it is a computer game then 90% would be about right but as for cartridge based system should be harder to crack/hack so would have thought that around 15 – 20% would have been fairer, but a great add-on all the same!!

Agreed, there is potential for a lot more depth in this. For the pirate mode we opted more for a tough challenge over platform-related realism.

That's a bit of a shame. I like the idea of pirating and DRM countermeasures in this game. I'mm just not a fan of soul-crushing difficulties.
I wonder if modders will be able to do something about this once the update is properly released?
GrenadesAndHamm Dec 14, 2017 @ 3:34pm
Just a little bit of realism goes a long way.

A 90 percent piracy rating in 1980 (start?) is a bit unrealistic. Most people had neither the knowledge nor the technlogy to do it.

Compare that to now where anyone can find a pirated version of a game if they really wanted.

will the update be applyed to exsisting saves or will we have to make a new save to get the new content?
