When is the game set, in the starting year?

I'm in year 22 and making a game based on year. Like NBA 2K13/14/15/16/17 etc

I'd say because the TES (NES) is released 1 year into the game I'd say it starts in 1982 and ends in 2017 but of course, you can still play afterwards.

Yeah, It's supposed to start in the early 80s and end around 2020 as the 8th gen ends and the 9th gen starts right at the end of the game. The game is set from the perspective of 2013, they were kind of just predicting what would happen.
