Unable to finish off one of the bosses

Has anyone else got this bug? I defeated the boss with the large shield and long sword. But the guy is still laying on the ground alive. No matter how much I hit him or jab him he won't die. And I'm not able to move on because the fence is still locking me in because technically he is still alive.

I haven't gotten through all the bosses, but from what I've played and seen it might not be a bug, it's just how the armoring works. You'll need heavy blunt damage or very precise piercing or something. You'll need to really lay it on them like they owe you tons of money.
