Half Sword

Half Sword

Constructive thoughts.
I understand this is an experimental demo, but I really feel like it's 'too much'
too much physics.
too much tripping over nonsensical things.
too much stabbing yourself with your own weapon you have no real control over.
too much flailing around but the AI has a far better idea of what they're doing (spears).
too much crashing.
too much falling over yourself just because you're trying to pick up an item in a chest.
too much of getting stuck on a corpse just because a severed hand is between your feet.

it's just too much.

I really feel like refining the physics and toning this down, making it a bit more controllable, there's a lot of potential for a REALLY fun game. Right now? It's just infuriating. Even if you manage to get a decent way through you end up dying to the utmost stupidest deaths possible. I think even QWOP the old flash game had a bit more control than this, and you could get some kind of a rhythm going. This is just the medieval version of AK spray and pray.

I will say, however, this is really neat and fun when you're not getting slapped around. But if you want to really make this gem shine you HAVE to reduce the amount of physics going on in here.

Don't flame me either, I'm giving genuine constructive thought on my experience as a developer working on my own title as well. I'm not sure if devs will see this, but I'm assuming a majority of the community here may agree.

>Too much physics
Agreed, it's hilarious most of the time, but when it bugs out and ends up making the game unplayable...yeah it should be toned down. Main issue is the scabbards. Rather than swords getting some sort of scabbard overlay, the scabbard is its own separate entity. It causes major clipping issues and results in the sword getting completely stuck, attempting to remove it or drop it causes it to spaz out and even send you flying.

>Too much tripping
Goes into the "too much physics" category. Tripping over...nothing gets annoying. But if its entire bodies it makes sense.

>Too much stabbing yourself
How? I know you can obliterate yourself with dual shovels but anything else I couldn't find that happening unless the physics went haywire (saw a sword creating its own "no entering" zone that I lured people into).

>too much flailing around
No offense, but unironic skill issue. Control your mouse, hold the appropriate button, don't use two handed weapons with

>Too much crashing
Not a single crash on my end, no matter how ♥♥♥♥♥♥ the physics get. I wonder what causes these inconsistent crashing, because I've seen it happen to multiple people. Certain PC specs causing issues? Drivers? Couldn't tell you. Hope it gets fixed in the future for you and others.

>Too much falling over yourself just because you're trying to pick up an item in a chest
I will say, picking up an item from a chest is pretty damn tricky. I've spend at most 1 minute average just trying to find the perfect angle to grab an item from a chest. At least smaller items. I find that grabbing outside the box while the item is hugging the chest's inside wall helps somehow. The hitbox clips outside the chest I guess. Also try aiming away from the inside of chest and then moving your camera down.

>Too much of getting stuck on a corpse just because a severed hand is between your feet
Never seen that happen, I've had limbs and even a torso stuck on my weapon, weighing it down, but never that. Sounds funny, do you have a screenshot?

>I really feel like refining the physics and toning this down, making it a bit more controllable
I think that's the main thing they should focus on. Anything else should be pushed a bit back. I really like this game and have gotten the "you won" screen twice now, so it's definitely completeable, but good lord half my many deaths are the result of physics issues. As you put it:

Never assume my friend. I do hope more people see this post. Discussion is healthy for a game's longevity.

Crashing is pretty much obsolete as it can be entirely avoided by locking your max FPS to 60 in the game settings.

*almost entirely avoided. You will just get it very, VERY rarely.
Agree with what enclave said. I like the physics overall but agree that it should be tuned down a bit unless devs want it that difficulty. Maybe there could be options in settings for the physics or something

Thanks for your response and added construction to it. I agree, plenty of skill issue here, but I don't think even the pros know what they're doing haha. Maybe a bit.

It's definitely got some potential. I just can't enjoy it. I keep playing it! But I'm not enjoying it! Lmao.

No screenshots of falling over a severed limb I stepped over, but it happens a lot. I also find trying to get back up off the ground to be painfully slow and difficult. I kid you not, I legitimately tripped over a BOX trying to nudge it to open and slit my own throat. Seriously. I ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up that badly. But I blame the over exaggerated physics.
>trying to get back up off the ground to be painfully slow and difficult
Difficult, not so much unless you're heavily injured with an enemy whacking your crotch. Painfully slow, absolutely. Seriously, it's a death sentence to fall even if your enemy is a decent distance away. Same goes for when an enemy is on the ground and you don't have great aim to hitting downed targets/have a weapon not good at hitting downed targets.
Also, I highly recommend turning down the player damage if you're struggling. Helped me a bunch to learn the basics of the game before I bumped it up to the default.

i cant start the game because the game just leaves everything at ultra graphics
