nah I just loaded an earlier save and brought a mace

having downed him with a sword rolled him over and given him a bladed prostate exam, ya its a glitch. he survived like 7 min of torture and violence my first attempt but then when i re loaded he died after just a bit more effort then a reg, guess there is a chance he spawns without damage parameters or something

Honestly? If it is the boss I think you are talking about, there's zero excuse for dying to him. His gimmick Makes him the easiest enemy in the game, even if you don't know what the gimmick is. If you have trouble finishing him on the floor, try bludgeoning him in the head repeatedly. Swords will work, but many other things including shields are better suited for the task.

At the time I stabbed him like 5-10 mins after he fell to the ground and he couldn't die, when I reloaded and brought a mace he just crumbled with a headsplat.

You can switch grips on long bladed weapons and pierce armor that way, might want to knock them on the ground first or you will just get bisected before you get close.
