Those are just issues with the physics, they're likely to be ironed out in the future. I'd just steer clear of weapons in general unless you plan on picking them up. I usually stay pretty far from any weapon rack unless it has something that catches my eye, because I know if I trip into it or am hit in its direction I'm liable to be cut open. Weapons can get caught on each other if you swing in a strange way, but I've found holstering the weapon or switching hands repeatedly can unjam them.
Additionally, you could probably prevent untimely dismemberment by lowering the body density so that grazing your body on a blade doesn't chop you to bits.

Overall an interesting concept though, the combat is kinda fun but maybe a little too chaotic
