Bought it on the PS5, my thoughts.
I have a profound love of Castle Crashers, in fact, it was the love of that game for me and my wife on the 360 back in the day, that made me point this out to her as something we should get to play locally. Here's my thoughts for anybody that cares, after about five or so levels.

Positive
+ The game has a charming / cute aesthetic going for it.

+ The graphical fidelity + performance on the PS5 version was solid.

+ Hero super skills are pretty cool visually.

Negative
- Characters can be unlocked, but some of them have similar fighting styles based on weapon-type, save for the special moves (Giant & Gigatoy as an example). The special move is the big change, but none of them are super interesting, they look neat though.

- The game looks good, but lacks a distinctive art-style which means everything sort of just blends in visually and your heroes don't really stick out. Some areas suffered from visual clutter and my wife & I couldn't easily recognise who / where we were, despite coloured rings underneath.

- Combat so far has been laughably simple, you don't seem to unlock any new abilities nor do you level any stats. You just run through the area, grabbing random weapons off the floor and killing very similar enemy types. You don't seem to unlock any new weapons, nor are there any pets or trinkets at least in the first five levels.

- The soundtrack is middling at best, nothing memorable about it (yet) but if the first 5 or so levels are anything to go by, I can't see it improving much.

---

If I could review this currently on Steam based on my time with it on the PS5, I'd probably lean into the middle thumb if there was such an option. It's not a bad game by any means, but it doesn't really lean into the Castle Crashers modern fix that I'd hoped it would.

It's a pretty run of the mill side-scrolling beat-em-up, if you were planning on buying this hoping it'd be a modern replacement and potential improvement to Castle Crashers, you'd be disappointed.

This is it! Everybody that knows castle crashers will compare this game to it. Sadly this game is not even nearly on castle crashers level. While the game itself is okay to play, if someone didn't play castle crashers yet, he should play that first.
