How is shirou different there
Well if i saw right,mc is a girl than shirou right?
I'm talking about another prototype
where mc is shiro
My friend who installed me the game, installed someones game with their saves lmao
I have somehow 36 days of playtime in that one and everything unlocked
Cant be me given i just followed true endings and none of dojo scenes or other endings
Hence why i was allowed to choose route with 3 day choices.... Why did i go sakura route....
Sakura route is my favorite route but there’s a reason it’s not the first lol
Imagine playing hf route first tho
You see Emiya managing his powers and then you start first route where he dosent have any strong powers
"Trying to become a hero of justice is such a childish dream and hes 17 years old. Like come on nobody thinks that way at that age."
Let's breakdown exactly what this means. For one, I'd say that you're being very unclear. Is it the term itself that bothers you or is it the goal?
Hero of Justice on its own is a silly term, yeah, it's something he got hooked on as a child and due to his trauma it's become something he's attached to. Shirou's dream is meant to seem innocent, naive, and even childish, the narrative points this out verbatim. Each route has a different answer to it which is part of the reason why Shirou is so complex, but that's getting off track.
Now, if it's the goal... then I'm confused on the issue. Shirou feels responsible for being unable to save the people in the Fuyuki incident of the 4th Grail War. This form of PTSD (which is a real and serious mental condition) leads to Shirou dehumanizing himself. Now what are the results of this? Shirou goes out of his way to help people, he repairs things, helps clean up, generally tries to do right by people. These are not absurd character traits, they're not unrealistic. People do this. Shirou's reasonings are motivated by his trauma, but the actions themselves are relatively tame.
Now when you factor in a Grail War, things do change a bit. It is fair to say that Shirou's ideals become more and more radical. He's throwing himself into harms way, he's doing things that can get himself killed, he's trying to mitigate harm as best as possible. Typically, in serious situations people act more erratically. Shinji is an example. He is not normally some murderous freak, it is the Grail War that takes his worst personality traits and exacerbates them (strictly talking about the murder parts and NOT the Sakura stuff).
Now some, I believe even you, may call him some generic MC because of these virtuous goals and actions... that is greatly missing the point. For one, it is absurd to write off someone being a good person as bad or boring, maybe you like villains—that's fine, Kirei's my favorite Fate character. Calling it poor writing or being unable to see the appeal just shows some lacking comprehension. But moving on. Shirou's acts of good will are always under a tragic backdrop. Shirou does believe in being good, but when he throws himself in the way of Berserker's attack on Saber, you have to consider that he is disregarding his life because to he doesn't believe that he matters. It is tragic. The fact that he is 17 only adds to this. He should be finding healthier ways to cope, he TRIES, but it's a deep scar that doesn't even start to get resolved until the ends of each route. This is not poor writing or unrealistic—THIS IS REAL. You had a traumatic experience where you nearly died, that's horrific. The fact that you aren't carrying any life long trauma is a very good thing. Situations are different from each other, but there's no point in compare and contrasting your experience and Shirou's because people react differently. You might have gone back to who you were, but a lot of people don't. I know people that have had some really near death experiences, some people that were legally dead until they were resuscitated, that ♥♥♥♥ can change you. That's why for many, Shirou is someone you can attach to and feel better as you seem him grow and develop a healthier mindset.
"And why does he get so awkward all the time around girls, like when he saw arthur taking a bath or sakura passing out and moaning."
This is just a character trait. He lacks social skills. Not only that, but not all men are freaks that will take out their phones or something sick like that.
"I never found him to be a relatable character, thats why im always down rooting for Kirei and King of Heroes."
Hey I love Kirei and Gil too. But as I mentioned up above, Shirou has a lot of relatability and that was only me talking about one aspect of his character.
"Hell i even like Shinji more because he has actual goals"
While I'm trying to be respectful in this... this one is just freaky. Seek help on this one.
Finally, I find it interesting that Denji was brought up here. While they have different personalities, Denji is also someone deeply affected by trauma to the point that it changes him and makes him act rather ridiculously. If you find Shirou having trauma to be a critique of his character, than Denji is in the same boat.
I don't really think Shirou has PTSD, I think he has survivors guilt. Speaking as someone with PTSD myself from a traumatic incident of sexual abuse, Shirou just doesn't seem to have it. You could say this was just an inability to write it but it just doesn't seem like PTSD to me. He doesn't have enough of the symptoms, if we're going to judge it via the diagnostic approach at least, I can finally use my clinical psychology for something. Anyway, the symptoms have to be causing significant problems in his daily life of functioning of social life.
PTSD symptoms are generally grouped into four types: intrusive memories, avoidance, negative changes in thinking and mood, and changes in physical and emotional reactions. And of course these will vary from person to person. I am not going to use my own experience as the "This is how you must have PTSD if you claim to have it".
Symptoms of intrusive memories may include:
Recurrent, unwanted distressing memories of the traumatic event
Reliving the traumatic event as if it were happening again (flashbacks)
Upsetting dreams or nightmares about the traumatic event
Severe emotional distress or physical reactions to something that reminds you of the traumatic event
He does not have recurrent memories of the event. Shirou does relive it in the event as far as I know. He does have dreams about it and they seem to mildly upset him but it's so minor. He does however have severe physical reactions to things that remind him about the event, such as when Kirei told him about the cause of fire. But this doesn't really come up again.
Avoidance
Symptoms of avoidance may include:
Trying to avoid thinking or talking about the traumatic event
Avoiding places, activities or people that remind you of the traumatic event
Shirou doesn't really ever avoid trying to think about the event. And he even visits the park where it happened, multiple times, and have in depth thoughts about it. Which also doesn't really make a ton of sense since he had a severe reaction once to Kirei talking about it.
Symptoms of negative changes in thinking and mood may include:
Negative thoughts about yourself, other people or the world
Hopelessness about the future
Memory problems, including not remembering important aspects of the traumatic event
Difficulty maintaining close relationships
Feeling detached from family and friends
Lack of interest in activities you once enjoyed
Difficulty experiencing positive emotions
Feeling emotionally numb
Shirou as far as I can tell, does not have negative thoughts about the world, or other people. But he does have negative thoughts about himself. Believing he is worthless, but I always attributed this to his survivors guilt instead which has the same result. He doesn't seem hopeless about his future. As far as we know, he doesn't have problems remembering the event, but I could be wrong there. He has no difficulty maintaining close relationships. He doesn't feel detached from family and friends from what I saw. He still has activities he seems to enjoy like archery. I don't know if he has difficulty experiencing positive emotions, but there were not many times in the vn where I felt like he was having lots of fun. He might be a little numb, but that's debatable.
Symptoms of changes in physical and emotional reactions (also called arousal symptoms) may include:
Being easily startled or frightened
Always being on guard for danger
Self-destructive behavior, such as drinking too much or driving too fast
Trouble sleeping
Trouble concentrating
Irritability, angry outbursts or aggressive behavior
Overwhelming guilt or shame
He is not easily startled or frightened. He is not constantly on guard for danger. He does have self destructive behaviour, such as throwing himself in front of berserker. Has no trouble sleeping. Has no trouble concentrating. He is actually somewhat irritable at times, but mostly towards Fujinee. He does have guilt and shame about surviving, but again, I always thought this was Survivors guilt.
So I don't think he actually matches a diagnosis of PTSD, but i'm not a clinical psychologist, just someone who studied behavioural, clinical, developmental, cognitive and social psychology for 5 years.
And this could just be Nasu not knowing much about psychology or mental health issues, especially since they are not well known about in Japan. And we didn't know as much about them back when Fate Stay Night was written.
