🪛 SteamWorld Heist II Troubleshooting Tips 🔧
Disclaimer: I am not related nor affiliated in any form with the developers or publisher of SteamWorld Heist II. The tips I am sharing here are tips for the community, from a fellow player. Nothing more, nothing less. I hope you never need these tips, though.
But if you do, I hope they will help you somewhat. Enjoy the game and happy heisting!

General not specified issues
Verify game files are installed correctly
Right-click on the game in your Library -> Properties -> Installed Files -> Verify integrity of game files

Launch Issues
Repair Steam Library Folder
Steam Settings -> Storage -> Hamburger Menu -> Repair Library

Reset User Settings

Go to
%appdata%\Thunderful\SteamWorld Heist II
(copy & paste into the address bar of Windows explorer)

there delete all files but leave the Save-folders (savegames) untouched

Graphics Issues
1. Try adjust the settings first and mind that graphics cards softwares come with auto-optimisation features which can mess up things. If necessary disable those apps (e.g. GeForce Experience/AMD Adrenaline)

2. When playing on laptop/notebook make sure that your dedicated graphics card is used instead of the integrated graphics card.

Set in Windows Graphics Settings only high performance mode for SteamWorld Heist II :swhrare:

In addition to that
If using a dual Nvidia / Intel GPU, follow these steps:
  1. Open Nvidia Control Panel
  2. Click Manage 3D Settings
  3. Go to Program Settings and then select the game (if it is not in the list you can add it manually by clicking Add)
  4. Scroll down to Power Management Mode
  5. Set it to Prefer Maximum Performance / High Performance Processor instead of adaptive
If using a dual AMD Switchable Graphics GPU, follow these steps:
  1. Open AMD Catalyst Control Center
  2. Under Switchable Graphics, select the High Performance section and select the game (if it is not in the list you can add it manually by clicking Browse)
  3. Click Apply
Check your PC’s power settings
  1. If using a notebook, ensure the charger is connected
  2. Open Control Panel
  3. Select Power Options
  4. Select Change Plan Settings
  5. Select Change advanced power settings
  6. From within the dropdown menu, select High performance and click Apply

3. Common problems are related to resolution, V-Sync (also G-Sync) and framerate. Capping the framerate globally through your graphics cards software control panel can help.

4. Run the game in windowed mode, if necessary use the freeware Borderless Gaming (or support the author by getting the Steam version) https://github.com/Codeusa/Borderless-Gaming/releases ; eventually disable Windowed Game Optimisation if using Windows 11

5. If your issue persists, consider a fresh install of your graphics card driver using DDU

Download your latest graphics cards drivers from official resources only
For the latest Nvidia drivers: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx
For the latest AMD drivers: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download

then

Download Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU)
http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html
Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) is freeware. Only download it from this trusted source.

Gamepad Issues
Check if the issue persists with Steam input disabled. If you have more than one controller connected, make sure to try with just one controller by unplugging the others as multiple inputs can cause issues. That includes additional devices on standby like e.g. VR headsets.

Stuck / Hardlocked Ingame
It is very rare that this can happen, and the developers are addressing gamebreaking bugs as fast as possible and viable to update. As long as you are using either the Steam version or GOG.com version, you can easily make use of the backup savegame.

The backup is the savegame from the pre-last-time-you-saved. So e.g. if you saved yesterday, and played today until you got stuck - the backup would be from yesterday.

The backup can be found in the Save000 folder in
%appdata%\Thunderful\SteamWorld Heist II
(copy & paste into the address bar of Windows explorer)

Make first a backup of the folders before modifying them!

1. Disable Steam Cloud Services for the game

Right-click on the game in your Library -> Properties -> Steam Cloud

2. Delete the last savegame file which can look like

..\Thunderful\SteamWorld Heist II\Save000\savegame_000.dat

(000 for the first slot, 001 for the second slot, 002 for the third slot)

and then change the file extension from savegame_000.dat.backup to savegame_000.dat
(you might need to make file extensions visible to do so in Windows, or use a third party file manager - in Windows you find the settings with the folder display settings)

If you have done it correctly, the game will continue from the point of the backup.

You could also make use of any vacant slot as backup slot that way. :MHRISE_OK:

Reporting Bugs & Issues
In addition to the forums you can make use of the official support email

support@thunderfulgames.com

or the official Discord channel

https://discord.gg/JVHf9cVjme

Information that help tracking an issue are
- detailed description of what happened and any steps you might recall which lead to the event
- description of what you expected should happen instead
- to avoid misunderstandings the platform you are playing on
- if you are playing on PC, details on your OS, PC specs and any other helpful information

I prefer always a DxDiag report, as it contains almost everything helpful for troubleshooting without leaving much room for misunderstandings.

- screenshots, video clips or any other visualisation to track the issue are welcome bonus; on consoles you could make use of the consoles' clipping features :mhwgood:

How to share a DxDiag report
Enter "dxdiag" in the command prompt (WIN+R) -> Save all information -> the content of the generated text file you can share via the mentioned mail above or using a service like pastebin.com or any other file sharing service of your choice. See also the official Microsoft manual for DxDiag.

Soundtrack
Loving Spine and the gang? You can get the soundtrack here

In addition to that, you can enjoy the full list also with the game. :swhpiper:
