And what if you are on PC not Deck. I saw in another thread it was patched for Deck but no news on PC.
This is a PS1 title that had no internet connectivity. WHY THE HELL DID YOU PUT IT ON NOW!?!?!?
So basically it's for verification, if you will. Different countries have different penalties for piracy, some have none. Therefore this is a somewhat easy way for devs to combat that, so there's that to consider.
Until new anti-piracy measures are invented that are less visible to the naked eye, you can pretty much expect to see this being a thing in plenty games for some time to come.
By going to this extreme to maximize control of your IP you are inviting people to go ahead with hacking and pirating. I am on a fixed income. Every now and then I have to suspend my internet service for a month or 2 for personal reasons. Also what happens when the company goes to cut costs and wants to cut off this checking? If they do not patch the game to operate without the connection then the users lose a game they have payed for.
This is not an MMO that can garner subscription money to support the servers needed for this live connection. The money will be made of unit sales. The more copies they sell the more money they make. This forum has lots of ppl voicing the same opinion as me. As long as it requires online they will not sell as many units.
A big part of the market interested in this title are from my generation, who owned this game in our younger days. (Hell I still got my disc and a working PSX and a PS2. Yet I would still by a good PC port today.) We value OWNING our media. We will not knowingly buy something who's ownership is at the whim of the company.
This is part of the problem with the modern consumer market. Online services and console wars are ruining the PC gaming market. Big business wants to be able to pull the plug on a title later on so you are forced to buy the next port of it when it comes out. Just like they are able to do with consoles.
The problem with the PC market is that there are often people (like me) who are not able to update our PCs every few years. So I want to be able to keep playing my games for years to come... ON MY OWN TERMS.
Activision/Blizard is only one step below EA. I already do not willingly give any sales to EA as they are a ♥♥♥♥ company, who treat their employees like crap, and do not care about the consumer; only how much they can squeeze out of their wallets. With this move I will be seriously considering doing the same with Acti-zard.
This command is for PC.
Steamdeck can do it but appearntly all PC's xcan do it according to my link
Again: You can make the game think it runs on Steam Deck with the aforementioned launch option and then it works offline.
The more reason they should just add offline mode, hopefully Microsoft can push something.
The point is not that there is a "work around." The point is that this practice is distasteful. Companies are doing this so that they can pull the plug on the check later so you are forced to buy the next remake or what ever if you want to keep playing the game. Only the biggest, greediest companies are doing this type of thing.
They can claim copy protection till the cows come home; I still will not believe it. These games come from a console that had 0 internet connectivity. Why do it now. Smart people will hit them in the pocketbook and not support this.
