Proton Hotfix: Power Consumption and GPU Performance Issues on Steam Deck and desktop computer (Nobara-Linux)

On the Steam Deck, the power consumption in the Warehouse level jumps from 15 to 20-25 watts compared to Proton 8.0.4. I tested it on my desktop computer with Nobara Linux to be sure, and the same issue exists there. The GPU utilization spikes from 40 to 100% (compared to 8.0.4), and the frame rate drops significantly.

I haven't tested other levels, so it's possible that they may also be affected.

For what it's worth, I've noticed the same thing on my steam deck. On launch day I was getting 11-13 watts on medium/high for warehouse and school, now, after an update, the warehouse is above 20. Makes me hesitant to play. I haven't tried playing around with other proton versions yet, I'll have to give that a look.

thanks a lot! thought something was wrong with my deck comparing it to youtube vids ha. Proton 8.0.4 runs THPS 1&2 much better. I was getting over 25w draw and 90 degrees on CPU on proton experimental. now around 20w and ~70 degrees.

Can you report this on the steamdeck forum? Hopefully they can fix this.

After recent patch proton 8.0.4 is all you need. Online mp works. No more disconnect pop-up. normal power draw and no online requirement on steam deck (sadly not for other handhelds). But i am still thankful.
