It sounds like you have some issue with DirectX. Have you tried running this[www.microsoft.com] yet?

Yes I have that

You could try tracking down d3d9.dll online and putting it in the same directory as Spelunky.exe. I'll keep looking for solutions on my end too.

I'm having the same issue. I tried the link that hullandy suggested and it said I was up to date. I found d3d9.dll on my computer and tried putting it in the spelunky folder, but that didn't help either. I've also tried editing my config to be windowed and fullscreen, but neither work. Anyone else have a workaround?

It appears this isn't limited to spelunky. Just had issues with Gone Home and Super Meat Boy as well. I'm attempting to update my graphics drivers. I'm on an HD7950.

Same issue on computer with Pentium Dual-Core E-6600 with integrated G33/G31 graphics chip. Another one works good. I'm just wondering, why don't developers integrate something like crash report form with essential information about system? Windows Application log doesn't contain any information about errors at the Spelunky launch time.
