Spelunky Classic Music Mod
Download: http://speedy.sh/FNQJe/spelunky-sound-mod-0-1.zip
and copy into the Music folder of your install to hear the classic music. DON'T FORGET TO BACKUP! (although advicebanana gave the advice to 'verify integrity of game cache' to have Steam redownload the normal music, great tip!)

*********************************************************
Update: It thought Hardûn's idea to randomly pick the retro (classic) songs was great. Therefore, behold v0.2:

https://mega.co.nz/#!IxRk3CYD!aWezFiOeb-XVgfKJ7oNjCEZr6ocdRydR6TdxUfghsoU

I've subjectively decided that the HD songs 1_A, 2_C, 3_C and 4_C are the least awesome, and thus replace those with the classical tunes. Also, I put in the classical credits tune for the menu, to give more variety when starting up the game (and since that tune is cool and I will never hear it otherwise =)
*********************************************************

For now I only replaced the A/B/C variants of each level with the original ogg's, not the special variants, e.g., haunted or dark. The original title song has replaced title, menu and lobby. Boss and credits music should also be there. Level 5 (I assume that is hell? I have not reached that far =) has no classic music I think. The classic file victory.ogg I have not used, does anybody know if that could replace something? For funsies you can use it as 'Lobby_jingle.ogg' to replace the "The walls are shifting" jingle!

Edit: You could also replace 'A01_first.ogg' with the classic mines tune since that seem to always play on your first run of a game session!

Edit2: Or maybe it is the file 'adventure.ogg' that plays first! This can be exploited for fun by always playing for example 'Never Gonna Give You Up' every first round =)

Edit3: Update above!

/b

Thanks for making this! I much prefer the free version's aesthetics.

Cheers man, your a legend. The music in the free one is the one thing I was missing.

Is it possible to simply add these to the rotation, so it will choose randomly between the new musics and the old ones?

Sure, just pick whichever of the random songs (A01_A.ogg, A01_B.ogg, A01_C.ogg) that you like the least, and replace that with the classic tune. Now it plays the classic randomly! Good idea!

Thanks for the mod, I'll give it a try!
Backing up is not that important since you can just verify integrity of game cache to have Steam redownload the normal music.

Actually, the site you are linking to aks me to download and run a binary file before I can access the music mod. Can you upload it to somewhere I don't have to fear getting adware? Here are some uninvasive suggestions:
{LINK REMOVED}
Dropbox[dropbox.com] (Might cut you off if the file is downloaded too often)
Google Docs/Drive
Mega[mega.co.nz]

Thank you.

I didn't know that, great tip!

The trick on SpeedyShare is to click the filename at the top ("spelunky sound mod 0 1.zip"), not the download button at the bottom. Tell me if that works, otherwise I'll upload it elsewhere!

'twas a long time I did this, can't seem to find the files, unfortunately =( However, it should still be as easy as donwloading the original (free) game and just rename and copy/paste/overwrite ogg files to the Spelunky music folder (C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\Spelunky\Data\Music). Let me know if it works.
